Inec : Election In Ondo State Will Proceed Despite The Setback.

Spokesman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Festus Okoye says election in Ondo State will proceed despite the setback caused by the fire incident which destroyed more than 5000 card readers on Thursday night, Igbere TV reports.

Mr Okoye, who was in Akure for preparations for the governorship election scheduled for October 10, told newsmen that the inferno would not affect the conduct of the polls.

He said card readers would be collected from other states which are not conducting elections.

This is just one state election. What we are going to do is to mop up smart card readers from other states and use them for the conduct of the election while investigating what happened, he said.

The cost of 5,141 smart card readers is so much, but we are not going to dwell on that now.

What we are going to dwell on is to mop up smart card readers from other states that are not conducting elections and use them to conduct Ondo governorship election.

We will dwell on other issues regarding the configuration of the card readers.

Fire incidents at INEC offices close to election day are becoming commonplace as about 4,695 smart card readers were destroyed by fire that razed INEC facilities at its headquarters in Awka, Anambra in February 2019 barely four days to the general elections.

Igbere TV recall that there was also similar incident in 2019 at the INEC office in Plateau State and Abia State where its facilities including card readers were destroyed by fire.

Manchester United needed an extra time penalty from Bruno Fernandes to see off a spirited FC Copenhagen and set up a potential Europa league semi-final against Wolves.

Kogi Bank Robbery: Police Smash Eight Suspected Robbers PM News

Kogi State Police Command and hunters have arrested eight members of a suspected robbery syndicate, who attacked three banks and police stations in Egbe and Odo Ere communities in Yagba West Local government area of Kogi State last Tuesday.

They were arrested through combined efforts of security agencies, local hunters and vigilantes according to a report after two suspected armed robbers were also arrested by local hunters at Igbaruku, a suburb of Odo-Ere while begging residents for drinking water.

According to a source, On Saturday, three more members of the fleeing robbers were intercepted at Ejiba, while two others, who were trying to board a vehicle in nearby Isanlu, were arrested.

The driver of the vehicle pretended to be taking them on the journey but instead drove them into the police station.

Two others were intercepted in Isanlu, during a stop and search operation when they were found to be in possession of N2 million worth of cash wrapped in an emblem of one of the affected banks.

All arrested suspects have been moved to Kogi State Police Command in Lokoja, for further investigations and prosecution.

The Kogi State Police Commands Public Relations Officer, DSP William Ayah confirmed the arrest to our correspondent.

He however declined giving figures, noting that efforts were still on to arrest other suspects in the crime.

It would be recalled that last week Tuesday some gunmen invaded the two communities, killed four civilians, a police officer and a bank guard during their operations that reportedly lasted hours leaving residents to scamper to safety.

However, a combined team of security agents immediately swung into action and tracked the suspects into their hideouts, where an unofficial report said some of the robbers were killed.
