When it comes to failing at a thing and not being able to complete a given task, there is always an excuse that can be given as justification. When you look around the society, those who fail always seem to have a definite reason for not being able to succeed at a thing. "I would have really done this, but because of this or that, I couldn't do anything again," seems to be the narrative of most failures.
If this is true for most failures, is it also true that successful people don't have excuses? Well, the truth is, they all do. They only refused giving in to their seeming excuse. There will always be a justifiable reason for not being able to smash a goal or complete a project. Successful people are those who refuse to allow these excuses to stop them from doing what they need to do.
Excuse and discipline can never co-habit - one will always substitute the other. When you study the lives of highly successful people, one common denominator you will find, is the trait of discipline. To every success, discipline is non-negotiable. There is absolutely no man that has attained a feat in any field of human endeavour that is not disciplined.
The ability to impose compliance and control on one's self until a desired result is achieved is what discipline is all about.
Everyone wants to succeed but very few are willing to withstand the pain of discipline. Discipline is not synonymous to comfort. It is an investment that involves pain with a reward as gain.
If you truly long for success in any field of human endeavour, discipline is one amazing partner you must get married to. If not, you will end up saying, "yes, I do" to regret.
Universities Awarding Degrees In Less Than 6 Months, PhD Below 1 Year - NUC
~1.9 mins read
National Universities Commission (NUC) has lamented the rate at which high institutions across the country are awarding higher degrees within six months and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in less than one year.
The Spokesperson of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Azuka Ogugua yesterday in Abuja quoted the Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Abubakar Rashid Adamu, to have stated this when he led a delegation to ICPC.
According to Ogugua, Adamu also said that NUC had found institutions where academic projects and thesis were on sale for N3000 per copy, adding that another disturbing scenario was the influx of graduates with fake degrees from foreign institutions into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The Secretary also revealed that fake institutions from the Benin Republic and Uganda were now recruiting students from Nigeria.
According to him, “ICPC had re-enforced the belief in Nigeria that corruption can be fought in a more civil and knowledge-based manner. You have helped us by weeding out fake degree mills in time past, we need your assistance in the illegal universities in the name of foreign universities with centres in Nigeria.
“We have them from Benin Republic, sometimes they award degrees in 6 months, while our degrees in Nigeria run for four years and above. We also have a case of a university in Uganda which recruits only students from Nigeria and South Sudan. There are also universities from Ghana that rent two- bedroom flats in Lagos and award PhD degrees in six months.”
According to the ICPC Spokesperson, the commission has concluded plans to begin clamping down on illegal degree awarding institutions as well as tackle the problem of sexual harassment in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
She disclosed that the plan to tackle the problem of fake degrees and sexual harassment was reached with the management of the NUC during a courtesy visit to ICPC’s headquarters, Abuja, recently.
Chairman of ICPC, Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, said that the Commission would partner with NUC to tackle the menace stressing that it was fraudulent for people to parade fake degrees
Owasanoye said that ICPC was already handling about 12 cases of sexual harassments in tertiary institutions adding that a conviction was recently secured against a professor in Obafemi Awolowo University.
He also urged NUC to help domesticate anti-corruption studies developed by ICPC through its Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN) in tertiary institutions curriculum, which had already been embedded in the secondary school curriculum.

Mason Mount fired Chelsea into fourth place in the Premier League as the midfielders superb strike clinched a 1-0 win against troubled Liverpool, while Everton boosted their top four bid with a 1-0 victory at West Brom on Thursday.
Mounts first half goal was enough to see off lacklustre Liverpool and extended Chelseas impressive renaissance under new boss Thomas Tuchel.
Chelsea are unbeaten in 10 games in all competitions since Tuchel replaced the sacked Frank Lampard in January.
The Blues sit one point clear of fifth placed Everton, who have a game in hand on the west Londoners.
While Chelsea are on the up, injury-hit Liverpool crashed to a fifth successive home defeat for the first time in their illustrious history, leaving the spluttering champions without a win at Anfield since before Christmas.
Jurgen Klopps team are languishing in seventh place, four points behind Chelsea after losing five of their last six league matches.
Chelsea dominated the first half, with Timo Werner denied by the narrowest of offside decisions.
Werner had flicked the ball round Liverpool keeper Alisson Becker and poked into the empty net, but part of the German forwards arm was ruled offside after a VAR check.
Even that escape couldnt shake Liverpool into life and Sadio Mane missed a sitter before Chelsea took the lead in the 42nd minute.
NGolo Kante launched a high pass towards Mount and the England midfielder cut in from the left, leaving Fabinho trailing in his wake before curling a superb finish into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
Liverpool were furious not to get a penalty when Roberto Firminos cross hit Kantes arm, but they were well below their best for long periods.
The Reds didnt have an effort on target until the 85th minute as Klopp surprisingly hauled off leading scorer Mohamed Salah.
Everton made it three consecutive victories thanks to the in-form Richarlison, while their improving defence recorded a third successive clean-sheet.
Richarlison headed home from Gylfi Sigurdssons 65th minute cross as the Brazilian netted for the fourth time in as many games after scoring just twice in the league this season before that run.
Were doing well and now were in the fight at the top of the table. The season is still long but we are there and pleased to be there, Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti said.
Second bottom Albion, who had a late Mbaye Diagne effort disallowed for offside, remain nine points adrift of safety as they slide towards relegation.
Dele Alli delivered in his first league start since the opening day of the season as Tottenham won 1-0 at Fulham.
Alli was not credited with his first league goal for just short of a year as his effort deflected off Tosin Adarabioyo into his own net.
Fulhams Josh Maja saw his effort harshly disallowed for a handball by Mario Lemina, but eighth placed Tottenham held on to move within five points of the top four with a game in hand.
In the end it was not a very different game from some we had and we managed to concede late goals, Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho.
Against Palace, Wolves, Newcastle, we concede late goals that took points away from us. Tonight was different, tonight we kept it.
Gareth Bale and Alli have struggled for form and fitness this season and have largely been bystanders as Son Heung-min and Harry Kane kept Tottenhams chances of a place in the Champions League next season alive.
However, after Bale struck twice in a 4-0 thrashing of Burnley on Sunday, all four started together for the first time in a Premier League game as Mourinho finally let off the handbrake on his attacking talents.
Three of the front four combined for the only goal as Bales pass picked out the run of Son and his cross appeared to have been turned in by Alli only for the final touch to come off Adarabioyo.
Despite a five-game unbeaten run coming into the game, Fulham remain three points adrift of safety in 18th.
North Macedonia’s EU Accession Talks Blocked By Bulgaria
~2.4 mins read
North Macedonia remains in the waiting room of the European Union after Bulgarias objections caused the Council of Ministers to fail to adopt a negotiating framework on Tuesday that would have allowed Skopje to start EU accession talks before the years end as previously envisaged.
Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva told media that her country is ready to give the green light to Albanias negotiating framework, but not to the one for North Macedonia.
I expressed the Bulgarian position, so at this phase, we cannot approve the negotiating framework with North Macedonia, Zaharieva said.
Bulgaria is open for talks [with North Macedonia] and I would like to see more efforts being put in the progress of the talks, rather than in the campaign against Bulgaria, she added.
She said that a candidate country cannot start accession talks if it has unresolved issues with an EU member state.
Bulgaria wants to scrap from the EU negotiating framework the use of the term Macedonian language, which despite being recognised by the UN in 1977, Bulgaria still insists is just a dialect of the Bulgarian language.
Bulgaria would like to see the use of the formulation, the language according to the Constitution of North Macedonia, which has been used since 1999 strictly in bilateral documents between the two countries.
Bulgaria also insists that North Macedonia should accept Sofias views on certain parts of the two countries shared history, most notably the alleged Bulgarian origin of the Ottoman era revolutionary Goce Delcev, who is celebrated as a national hero in both countries.
