"Bolaji! Shebi we go see you tomorrow for the meeting, as usual?" Emeka asked.

Bolaji looked up from where he was fixing a car, and with his mouth slightly opened out of surprise, he burst out  into laughter.

"Which meeting?" Bolaji asked cynically.

Emeka was quite taken aback by Bolaji's response.

"Ah Ahn! Our normal area meeting nau! You don forget?" Emeka emphasized.

The discourse of leadership revolves around so many dynamics, and this speaks volumes of the responsibility attached to it. Leadership transcends position, title and privileges. Leadership is an all inclusive narrative that is majorly anchored on the trust and confidence of the people being led. When people choose their leaders, there is basically one major expectation- Accountability!

What values do you place on people?

How do you measure the commitments of those you lead? Is it the bread and butter, wine and money you give to them that guarantees their trust?

Is your leadership accountable?

A leader who continues to take advantage of his/her position to exploit the people, is a clear indication of a fraudulent and abusive leader who doesn't care about the people's progress thus constantly promoting the narrative of corruption in every discourse. According to Abraham Lincoln: You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time but you cannot fool all the people all the time.

This is a reflection of the reality of any leadership that assumes absolute power over the people- it's only a matter of time when the people will begin to retaliate and fight back!

Those who walk in the corridors of power at every level should begin to reevaluate their priorities by focusing on the needful, every society or system is defined by its people, particularly by its leaders who control its affairs thus its expedient that the people are given a sense of direction and a sense of belonging, no one wants to be taken advantage of at any point in time.

Let your leadership count for something!
