The oxford advanced learners dictionary defines hypocrisy as a disapproving behavior in which somebody pretends to have moral standards or opinions that they do not actually have.

It is the practice of claiming to have higher standards or more noble belief than others.

The Cambridge dictionary describes hypocrisy as a situation in which someone pretends to believe something that they do not really believe or that is the opposite of what they do or say at another time.

The practice of engaging in the same behavior or activity for which one criticizes others is an example of hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy is like carrying fire in one hand and water in the other.
It is to be duplicitous, to engage in double-dealing, to be two faced, to speak with a forked tongue etc

Showing or expressing feelings or beliefs one does not actually hold or possess is also hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy is an act disgusting to heaven and unfair man.
Sometimes we tend to see hypocrisy which is just a well dressed name for lying, falsehood, pretense, insincerity, hollowness and deceit as smartness.

★Crocodile tears

Legend has it that a crocodile sheds tears and moans in order to lure passers-by into its clutches and still weeping devours them.

Jesus' instructions to us addresses this act.HE gave warning's, "and when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites for the love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners that they may be seen(and praised) by men Matthew 6:5.

Again HE warned, "when you fast do not look dismal like the hypocrites for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by men Matthew 6:16.

There is a need for us to watch what we say and check the things we do such that we do not imprison the mind's of others and make ourselves look good and flawless.

When someone wrongs you spell it out to them it's best, do not wear a hypocritical smile while stabbing them in your mind.

Conclusively, maintain a balance such that what you say to others is what you are doing. Let's try not to use words and appear great to others thinking we are being smart while heaven see's us(you) as a disgust.
