When a fluctuating electric current flows through the coil(present in the earbud), it becomes a temporary electromagnet, attracted and repelled by the permanent magnet (already present in the earbud). As the coil moves, it moves the cone (diaphragm) back and forth, pumping sound waves into the ear.

The headphones mainly consists of two parts :
1. The earbud and
2.
The jack.
The jack.
An earbud consists of all the arts mentioned above. It's connected to the jack with two wires. To carry back and forth the signals.
The jack is mainly used to close the current loop coming from the circuit (earbud) in order to make sound.
All headphone plugs have conductors. Conductors are the contact points of the plugs that close the circuit. A headphone plug has a minimum of 2 conductors and commonly up to 5
The 2 conductor plugs will have 'Tip' & 'Sleeve'. The connection is fairly straightforward here.

One connector is used to carry the audio signal while the other acts as a return path and ground.
The ground acts as a reference point for the signal but it also picks up interference noises like an antenna.
The longer the cable, the higher chance that more noise will be picked up.
In 3 conductor plugs, there's an additional ring which will be used to conduct microphone signals.
