Police Rearrest 58-yr-old Man Who Escaped From Benin Prison During End SARS Protest
~1.1 mins read

Police operatives in Edo State have rearrested a 58-year-old prisoner, Jacob Alonge, who escaped from the Benin Correctional Centre during the 2020 #EndSARS protest in the state.

Alonge was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment by Edo High Court, after being convicted of r@ping his own daughter Gift Alonge.

Parading him before newsmen in Benin City, the State Police Commissioner, Funsho Adegboye, said: “While the case is ongoing in court, he thr£@tened that the case would have no end and true to his thr£@t, his daughter and others who were coming to testify in court di£d mysteriously but he was convicted.”

He said the convict, who was serving a jail term, escaped during the #EndSARS jail break in the two custodial centres in Benin.

According to him, the police got credible intelligence that the convict, a serial r@pi§t, was sighted at Ososo community in Akoko-Edo local government of the state.

The CP disclosed that the operatives of the Command stormed the community to arrest the inmate but some unscrupulous elements in community resisted his arrest.

He said the operatives overpowered those that resisted the arrest of the convict, following which he was re-arrested and brought to the Command.

In an interview with newsmen, the convict said he escaped because everyone was escaping after the prison was forced open during the #EndSARS protest.

“I escaped to my village. I was called that police are in my house and are looking for me, so I went to meet them and I was arrested,” he stated.

Trump Media's Auditor Banned By SEC For 'Massive Fraud'
~1.2 mins read

The auditing firm for Donald Trump’s Trump Media & Technology Group (DJT) and other companies, BF Borgers, as well as its owner Benjamin Borgers, were fined and banned for life by regulators who accused them of “massive fraud.”

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) charged BF Borgers and Benjamin Borgers with “deliberate and systemic failures to comply with Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) standards in its audits and reviews incorporated in more than 1,500 SEC filings from January 2021 through June 2023.”

In addition, the SEC said the company and Borgers lied to their clients, fabricated audit documentation, and falsely stated in audit reports included in more than 500 public company SEC filings that the firm’s audits met the standards.

Officials said that to settle the charges, BF Borgers and Benjamin Borgers agreed to pay $12 million and $2 million in civil penalties, respectively, and “permanent suspensions from appearing and practicing before the Commission as accountants, effective immediately.”

Last year, research firm Audit Analytics listed BF Borgers as the eighth-largest auditing firm, with 187 SEC registrant clients.

At the time included in the SEC complaint, Trump Media was privately held. It went public in March through a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC).

Shares of Trump Media were little changed trading at $48.72 as of 3:15 p.m. ET Friday.

What You Need To Know Ahead Of Disney's Earnings Report Tuesday
~2.2 mins read

Disney (DIS) is set to report earnings Tuesday for its second quarter of fiscal 2024 before the opening bell, with investors likely to be watching for streaming subscriber growth as the company works toward profitability in its streaming business.

Analysts project Disney's revenue to be $22.08 billion for the second quarter of 2024, down from the previous quarter but up from $21.82 billion in the same period in 2023, according to estimates compiled by Visible Alpha.

Net income is expected to be $1.97 billion, a decline from the first quarter but up from $1.7 billion in the second quarter of 2023. Diluted earnings per share (EPS) are projected at $1.09, compared with 93 cents in the same period a year earlier.

Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions are expected to grow in the second quarter with early contributions from the company bundling its streaming offerings, Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+.

Analysts project that Disney+ Core and Hulu subscribers will grow to 117.2 million and 50 million, respectively, according to estimates compiled by Visible Alpha. That would represent an increase from the 104.9 million and 48.1 million the company reported respectively for the services in the year-ago period.

"Disney bundling activity continues to rise: 26% of respondents have Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+," according to a J.P. Morgan survey, with analysts saying it was "the highest mix thus far."

UBS analysts, who have said that Disney's streaming segment is "the biggest source of near-term upside," noted that "the consolidation of Hulu in the U.S. should also drive engagement and help streamline operations, boosting streaming margins."

The company could provide updates about its upcoming password-sharing crackdown as well, which could translate to higher subscriptions as Netflix (NFLX) experienced after implementing its own password crackdown.

Subscriber growth could help Disney achieve profitability in its streaming business. The company has recorded narrowing losses in its streaming business, with Disney CEO Bob Iger reporting at Disney's annual shareholder meeting in April that the company is on track to reach profitability in its streaming segment by the end of the 2024 fiscal year.

Analysts project second-quarter operating income for Disney's direct-to-consumer entertainment segment to narrow to a $116.8 million loss from the prior quarter's $138 million loss and the year-ago quarter's $587 million loss, according to estimates compiled by Visible Alpha.

UBS analysts said that they expect "the Content segment to turn profitable with incrementally higher licensing revenues and improved box office with the new slate."

Disney shares have gained over one-quarter of their value since the start of the year, at $113.86 as of 3:40 p.m. ET Friday.

Nigerian Army Dismisses Soldier For Engaging His Colleague’s Wife In The Other Room
~0.7 mins read

The Nigerian Army has reportedly dismissed a soldier, Abdullahi Ismail after he was found guilty of sl££ping with his colleague’s wife.

SaharaReporters reports that the Lance Corporal was dismissed during the week at 231 Battalion in Biu, Borno State.

“The soldier was fired from the Nigerian Army for sl££ping with his colleague’s housewife. We’re happy as this will serve as an example to others involved in this act now common in our barracks,” one of the sources said.

Another source added, “Our colleague, Abdullahi has been dismissed at 231 BN Biu. He sl£pt with his regular’s wife. So sad.”

The source added that the dismissed soldier had a notorious history of s+xual indiscipline before he was reported to the army authorities.

His offence – indecent professional misconduct and having s+x with a fellow soldier’s wife – contravenes Sections 79 and 93 of the Armed Forces Act CAP A20, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
