Many highly regarded managers have been dismissed, quit their roles, or have yet to join a new club after finishing their last management duties in recent seasons. On that note, here's a look at the five best managers without a job right now:

Frank Lampard

It wasn’t much long ago that Frank Lampard was sitting at the Chelsea dugout, motivating players and trying to help them compete with top sides. However, things turned sour for him as this season went along and with Chelsea’s top-four dreams fading away, he was sacked at the end of January.

Having managed a club of Chelsea’s stature for nearly two seasons and with his work at Derby County, Lampard can be easily considered as one of the top employed managers right now. After the setback of being let go by the Blues, it remains to be seen where the Englishman ends up going in the next chapter of his career.

LUCIEN FAVRE

While his time at Borussia Dortmund ended in rather brutal fashion at the turn of last year, Favre remains one of the brightest minds in the game, and his body of work should make him a racing certainty to be interviewed by any ambitious Premier League outfit. A Favre appointment could have echoes of Ralph Hasenhüttl should he arrive in English football, given the Saints boss was prematurely written by many after his time at RB Leipzig ended on a sour note.

If anything, the Frenchman boasts a better CV than the Southampton boss, with his adventurous tactical style winning both admirers and honours at Zurich and Dortmund.

Ernesto Valverde

Make no mistake, there were some very questionable signings during the Valverde era at Barcelona, chiefly the acquisitions of Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann for eye-watering nine-figure sums, though that bad business can largely be attributed to a spendthrift board who lacked long-term vision. Valverde was ‘backed’, a term bordering on the cliche these days, but his ‘backing’ was a poorly-assembled squad of individuals. For his part, though, Barca won back-to-back La Liga titles and the Copa del Rey between 2018 and 2019. It unravelled in the end for La Liga’s 2015/16 ‘Coach of the Year’, but the blame cannot be solely levelled at Valverde, particularly given how the club have fared since his exit.

Arsene Wenger

The more time that passes since Wenger's Arsenal departure, the more unlikely it seems that he'll return. Yet the man himself remains keen and don't be surprised if one of the offers tickles his fancy.

Zinedine Zidane

Zidane parted ways with Madrid for the second time this summer, after failing to secure a trophy for Los Blancos. Despite that, he led them to their 34th La Liga title in 19/20, and will now embark on a new challenge at a new club, in all possibility.
