It is on record that she was a surgeon for 69 years (since 1950) and had performed over 10,000 operations. While she was still living, in an interview with Lite FM, she said that being a doctor is not just a profession for her, but a life style. When asked if she had plans for retirement, she answered that who was going to perform the surgeries if she retired, and that she would have nothing else to do after retirement.

She added that she worked because it was interesting for her, and also because she liked to win and help people achieve remission. She said that there are people she saved many years ago. When no one wanted to perform a surgery on them, she did, and they are still alive with grown up children.

She was also asked what she did to live for so long, but she replied that she had no secret to longevity, as she just ate everything, laughed a lot and cried a lot.

Alla was unmarried, and lived in a flat where she cared for her disabled nephew and eight cats. Average Russians retire in their mid-fifties, but Alla had broken that record. She did not see age as a barrier, and she lived an indeed happy and fufilled life.
