A former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has spoken about what he believes made Governor David Umahi defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku suggested that Umahi's political inexperience may have prompted him to make the wrong choice of defecting, Vanguard reported.

He told a gathering of PDP members in Ebonyi state on Tuesday, December 29, that the governor was yet to disclose the true reason why he decided to leave the party.

The former vice president stated that only a politically naive and visionless politician will dump PDP for the APC.

Umahi will be courageous enough to tell Ebonyians the true reasons why he left for a sinking ship APC. If he does not, at the appropriate time we shall tell the people."
"It is only the politically naive, dumb, visionless and broken that will leave a smooth sailing, progressive, purposeful and goal oriented ship and jump into a sinking and directionless ship on a voyage to no where."
According to Leadership, The former vice president said he is confident that the PDP will take over the Ebonyi government house come 2023 despite the governor's defection to the APC.

He also gave tips on how the PDP can emerge victorious in the 2023 general elections.

The politician who was the 2019 presidential candidate of the party said the PDP must be united to secure electoral victories in 2023.

He urged party members in the state to remain undeterred in the face of challenges.

Meanwhile, Governor Umahi is being pressured to contest in the 2023 presidential election.

The deputy governor of the state, Kelechi Igwe, and other members of the state executive council have asked Umahi to formally declare his presidential ambition.

The Cable, citing NAN, reported that the officials visited the governor at his hometown at Uburu, Ohaozara local government area (LGA) to discuss the matter with him.
