North Korea Held A Rare Night-time Military Parade With Missiles
~1.1 mins read
North Korea held a rare night-time military parade on Saturday, attended by leader Kim Jong-un.

The parade marked the 75th anniversary of the Workers' Party.

North Korea typically uses its parades to show off new missiles and weaponry. Experts say intercontinental ballistic missiles were evident during Saturday morning's event.

It is the country's first parade in two years and comes just weeks ahead of the US presidential election.

North Korea had not featured ballistic missiles in its parades since President Donald Trump and Mr Kim held their first summit in 2018.

According to South Korea's military, the parade took place before dawn on Saturday. The reason for its early timing is not yet known.

No foreign media or foreigners were allowed to attend, so analysts are relying on edited state-media footage which is being released to assess the parade.

Images showed Mr Kim wearing a grey Western-style suit, receiving flowers from children.

In a speech, he said North Korea would continue to "strengthen" its military for "self-defence and deterrence".

He also said he was grateful that no North Koreans have contracted Covid-19.

"I wish good health to all the people around the world who are fighting the ills of this evil virus," he said.

Despite claiming the country has no cases of coronavirus, Mr Kim continues to hold high-level meetings to ensure tight restrictions remain in place.

Analysts have said it is highly unlikely that North Korea has not experienced any coronavirus cases at all.

Buhari Sacks Official Probing Alleged Corruption In Government Agency

Buhari Sacks Official Probing Alleged Corruption In Govt Agency
The Chairman of the board of Cross River Basin Development Authority, Eseme
Eyiboh, has been sacked by President Muhammed Buhari.
Mr Eyiboh’s sack came about two months after the Minister of Water Resources,
Suleiman Adamu, overruled the board on the suspension of the agency’s
managing director, Bassey Nkposong, over an alleged corrupt act.
Mr Nkposong was suspended after an ad-hoc committee which looked into how
the agency was run accused him of irregularities in the award of N250 million
worth of contracts and other “breaches.”
The managing director refused to respond, twice, to the allegations, including
a query from the board before he was suspended.
Mr Nkposong, however, told PREMIUM TIMES he did not receive any query or
suspension letter from the board. He also said he was not aware of the ad-hoc
committee set up by the board.
Mr Adamu, while overruling the board on the suspension, said the board did
not possess the needed authority and also did not also follow due process.
Axed
A letter from the Ministry of Water Resources to Mr Eyiboh said President
Buhari has approved his removal as the board chairman.
The letter, dated October 8 and signed by the permanent secretary, Didi
Walson-Jack, on behalf of the minister, did not state why the board chairman
was removed.
Mr Eyiboh’s removal, however, appeared to be in connection with the board’s
investigation and eventual ‘suspension’ of the managing director.
Mr Eyiboh was not queried by the ministry. The allegation of corruption was also
not investigated by the ministry.
The minister, instead, asked the sacked chairman to hand over to a member
of the board, Ademola Oyadare.
The minister did not respond to calls and a text message seeking his comment.
Undeterred
Mr Eyiboh, on Saturday, issued a press statement over his removal. He
addressed the alleged corruption in the Cross River Basin Development
Authority.
“The Board under my chairmanship did not reckon with the organised
corruption ring that had the active connivance and protection of the power
grid at the supervising Federal Ministry of Water Resources,” he said in the
statement.
“The trajectory of the board’s running battles to ensure transparency and
probity by the management of the CRBDA shows clearly that the agency’s
Managing Director could not have been acting independently of a powerful
protective cocoon located in the supervising ministry.
“Six months after the composition and inauguration of the Governing Board of
the Cross River Basin Development Authority by the President, the management
of the CRBDA engaged in the most scandalous public auction of the
commonwealth of the people occasioning the carting away and conversations of
public assets under spurious circumstances and continued to run the Authority
as if there was no board, with the Managing Director acting as a sole
administrator, as it were before the board was constituted.
“The Governing Board had to invoke its oversight powers by setting up an ad-
hoc committee to look into the activities, programmes and projects of the
Basin Authority,” Mr Eyiboh said.
Mr Eyiboh said his removal “should not end the quest for accountability” at the
agency.
“I want to restate that Hon Eseme Eyiboh may be the target, but he is not the
issue at stake at the Cross River Basin Development Authority. The main issue is
corruption, which I believe is actively being covered up from high places. If the
supervising ministry dares, let the minister institute an independent panel to
confirm or rebut the findings of the board,” he said.

Republic Or Ireland V Wales: Aaron Ramsey Return A Massive Boost - Ben Davies
~1.2 mins read
The return of midfielder Aaron Ramsey will give Wales "a massive boost" for Sunday's Nations League match against the Republic of Ireland, says defender Ben Davies.

Juventus' Ramsey, 29, missed Thursday's 3-0 friendly loss to England having been part of the Italian club's Covid-19 bubble following an outbreak.

He was also absent for last month's Nations League games because of injury.

"Aaron is a world-class player," said Tottenham left-back Davies.

"Having him in any team would boost you. He gets on the ball, he's very creative and always looks forward and to get a team up the pitch."

Ramsey has long been one of his country's most influential players, scoring 16 goals in his 60 appearances and earning a place in Uefa's Euro 2016 team of the tournament when Wales reached the semi-finals.

He has also been in fine form for Juventus, earning praise in Italy for his creative displays for the Serie A champions.

A combination of fitness concerns and coronavirus-related unavailability means Ramsey has not played for Wales since November 2019.

On his most recent appearance, he scored both goals as Wales beat Hungary 2-0 to qualify for Euro 2020, which has since been postponed until next summer because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Wales manager Ryan Giggs said: "Aaron brings that experience first and foremost - we have a young squad - and he brings that something different that can unlock defences.

"He's got that ability to make the difference, which he did in our last qualifier against Hungary with his two goals."

Wales face the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Sunday (14:00 BST kick-off), before an away game in Bulgaria on Wednesday (19:45).
