Nigerian Man Narrates His Ordeal With FSARS 8 Years Ago On Social Media
Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS stylised as SARS) is a special unit of the Nigerian Police force that is designed to tackle criminals in the country. But recently it seems like that has been the opposite.
The Nigerian authorities have so far failed to tackle the impunity enjoyed by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), whose brutality and corruption is becoming increasingly brazen, despite repeated pledges to reform the police squad and investigate violations committed by its officers.
Last weekend, the Nigerian police announced yet another ban on routine patrols by SARS and other tactical squads of the Nigerian police, the fourth such ban in four years, amid growing anger over harassment and abuse by officers. SARS actions reached its boiling point last week when it was alledged that they shot a young man to death in Ughelli, Delta state.
Since then Nigerians have taken to their Social Media handles particularly their Facebook and Twitter handles to voice out their Opinion concerning the matter. That is what brought about the hashtag #EndSARS.
It was seconded by many prominent Nigerians and the most notable ones are Musicians Wizkid and Don Jazzy. This has made many Nigerians to voice out their past encounters and ordeals with FSARS in the past.
A Facebook user by name of UZOR ISAAC has this evening taken to Social media to share an ordeal that he had with FSARS 8 years ago. I screenshotted the post and you can view it below:
In summary, he said that he was once confronted by SARS on the way and they questioned him about the Blackberry Bold 4 phone that he was holding, he told them that he is working and that he earns 32k every two weeks. After much interoggation, he told them that he is living near an army barracks and they let him go. He said that the event too place 8 years ago.
