~1.9 mins read
Update From NAIJA COVER . COM
From The Information Reaching NAIJACOVER Desk, Rev. Fr. Ejike Fabian Odunze,
the parish priest of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Nkomoro in Ezza North Local
Government Area of Ebonyi State, has been allegedly attacked by some youths of
the area.
It was gathered By NAIJACOVER, that the incident happened after Father
Odunze flogged and detained the son of the Councilor of Nkomoro Ward, Mrs
Ngozika Onele, for allegedly destroying his cassava farm.
A source from the community who spoke to Vanguard on Thursday, October 8,
said that Fr. Ejike had vowed not to release the child without seeing the parents,
having warned him several times, against destroying his farm produce.
Fr. Odunze’s refusal to release the boy, angered his family members who went
and reported the matter to the Chairman of the Parish Council, NaijaCover
Reports.
"When the Chairman of the Parish Council arrived Father’s house, alongside
Kelechi Nwali and Chika Nwali, who are the brothers to the Ward Councillor, he
sought to know what happened," the source explained.
“But Fr. Ejike asked him to ask the people who brought him into the matter. It
was in the process that a quarrel ensued. Then, Chika Nwali insisted Father must
release the boy to them without further delay. His outburst angered Father who
ordered that he should leave his compound. But he refused,"
“Chika said he would not leave without Father releasing the boy. In anger,
Father brought a cane and started flogging him to leave his compound.
Immediately Father used the cane on him, he collected it and broke it, into
pieces, before Chika and his other brothers who were around, started beating the
priest mercilessly.” the source added.
It was further learnt that after the incident, the Father who could not bear the
assault, left the community, and is currently at Bishop’s quarters in Abakaliki,
where he is also receiving treatment.
The Bishop of Abakaliki Dioceses, Michael Nnachi Okoro and the entire Catholic
community are said to be very furious over the development, NaijaCover Reports.
When contacted, Fr. Odunze said he was not stable to talk on the matter and
wanted to be left alone.
“I’m not stable to talk to you now.”

THE KING SERVANT
~3.0 mins read
OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL

DATE: SUNDAY 14TH JUNE 2020.

THEME: THE KING-SERVANT.

MEMORISE:

And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. Mark 10:44

READ: Matthew 20:25-28

25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.

26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

MESSAGE

I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him: Psalm 89:20

One may think the passage should have read “I have found a king,” but it says: I have found a servant. God is looking for one who will be king, yet a servant. In other words, the route to true leadership in any area of life is service.

Amongst the apostles, Paul was then most prominent. His handkerchiefs healed the sick and cast out demons (Acts 19:12). Yet, just after the shipwreck on the Island of Melita (Acts 28:1-10), it was he who went to fetch firewood for the people who were sitting around the fire. Today, if you ask a Bishop to do the same, he most likely would feel offended and say “Don’t you know who I am?”

The hands that cannot labor cannot heal the sick. If God will use you, you must step down from the exalted throne you placed yourself on and learn to serve.

When I became born again, I determined to do anything to serve God. One day, we needed to weed the Church headquarters. Although I was the most educated in the Church at the time, on the set date, I ensured I arrived first at the Church with my very sharp cutlass to cut the grass. The hands that cut the grass then, the God’s grace now heal the sick and raise the dead.

To lead is to serve. Those who will lead must consider themselves as less that the least. The lower you are, the higher your promotion. The higher you place yourself; the louder the sound of the crash (Luke 14:11).

David is regarded as the greatest King ever in Israel; he was however, also known for serving. The one time he stayed back during a war landed him in trouble. Incidentally, it all started from an exalted location in the Palace. Once he realized his mistake, he continued going to war until the people compelled him to stop. That is the kind of person God wants to empower.

REFLECTION:

You want to become a true leader? Never see yourself as higher than those you are called to serve. That is how to go higher.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 134, 146-150.

AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE

HYMN 2: ALL TO JESUS I SURRENDER.

1. All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
o Refrain:
I surrender all,
I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.

2. All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow;
Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
Take me, Jesus, take me now.

3. All to Jesus I surrender,
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.

4. All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me.

5. All to Jesus I surrender,
Now I feel the sacred flame;
Oh, the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to His Name!

POWER OVER SIN
~3.2 mins read
OPEN HEAVENS BY PST. ENOCH .A. ADEBOYE

SATURDAY JUNE 13

POWER OVER SIN

MEMORISE:
For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Matthew 26:28

READ:
Galatians 3:20-26
20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
2 Chronicles 6-7
Psalm 136

MESSAGE:
Many Christians think the law (the Old Testament) is no longer of any effect and thus behave carelessly, claiming that, because they are born again, grace covers all their sins. Paul clarifies this in the following Scripture:

*“But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”* Galatians 3:23-26

The old covenant protected the people against temporal death, poverty, all forms of suffering and bondage but the new delivers eternally (Matthew 1:21; 26:28). Your ability to overcome sin is proof that you are a child of God, John the Beloved corroborated this when he said in 1 John 3:9 that *“Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.”*

Are we really children of God? If we still wallow in sin, we remain in the old dispensation and the letter of the law will punish us here and in the afterlife.

The superiority of the new covenant over the old however is that, while the latter puts constraints to prevent sin, the new gives power over it. Romans 6:14 says: *“For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.”*  We therefore have the assurance that grace will work for us. Romans 6:1 however cautions that we cannot remain in sin, expecting grace to abound. Rather, grace empowers us to conquer sin. You do not have any excuse to abide in sin.

ACTION POINT:
Tap into the power of the new covenant to overcome sin.

HYMN 30:
1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Chorus:
Trust and obey,
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.

2. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4. But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.

COST OF A HAPPY HOME
~2.0 mins read
*THE COST OF A HAPPY HOME*
When you see a happy couple, don't envy them or assume they are lucky to find each other. *There is no happy home anywhere* - if you see any be sure they were made. *Being a good person or being religious* doesn't make a happy home *neither does riches and wealth.* Marrying the *most beautiful woman or the most handsome man* doesn't guarantee happiness in marriage either. *Many believers even think marrying another good believer is a sure way to having a happy home but many have been disappointed.*
What then makes up a happy home? *A happy home is a function of mutual fulfilment derived from mutual selfless commitment to the marital union.* Having a happy home can only be achieved by deliberate efforts and determination of both parties. No matter how much a partner desires a happy home, *it can only happen if the other partner wants and agrees to build a happy home.*
To achieve a happy home, *therefore both parties must first offer themselves as a living sacrifice on the altar of their marriage.* They must deny themselves and be willing to accept their cross.
*In a happy home, ego and self are buried in the grave of marital bliss.* Partners in a happy home don't think too much about themselves but the happiness of their spouse.
*The journey to a happy home can be initiated by the man or the woman.* This journey starts with *contentment and diligence.* Then it continues in daily *forgiveness and mutual tolerance.*
*No couple is happy when they continue to look at each other's weaknesses or offences.* They can only be happy if they *choose to accept each other's* shortcomings and offenses and take their pains and hurts to the Almighty God, instead of romancing with them. Happy couples *don't win arguments,* rather, they communicate to achieve a better union.
*Happy couples don't compare their marriage with others,* they are happy and contented with what they have.
Happy homes are not meant for selfish and inconsiderate partners. Happiness is a choice but the price is not cheap. *Only the humble and the broken can buy it.*
The manual for a happy home is not designed by the society or social media. *They are designed by the couple.* The ideal home mustn't follow the acceptable trends in the society rather working and practicing what makes the parties happy.

You can initiate the journey to a happy home today no matter how far you have traveled in the path of bitterness and unforgiveness. *An unhappy home is the junior sibling to hell fire.* A happy home is a reflection of heavenly bliss.
The choice is yours.
*Give peace a chance in your marriage today.* Stay Safe and be Joyful.
