End SARS: NANS tells IGP to arrest protesters, says Yahoo-boys sponsoring hoodlums
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to arrest those disturbing the peace of the society in the name of End SARS protest.
DAILY POST reports that the End SARS protest, which started in Lagos a few days ago, has spread to other parts of Nigeria.
A policeman was said to have been killed by protesters in Delta State on Thursday while a police station was vandalised in Ogun State on Friday.
Reacting, NANS cautioned the protesters not to throw the country into unnecessary crisis, saying protests currently going on in some parts of the country may develop into a full-blown chaos if care was not taken.
This was contained in a statement made available to DAILY POST by NANS National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Adeyemi Azeez in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Saturday.
According to Adeyemi, the protests had already been hijacked by hoodlums who may take advantage to wreak havoc on other law-abiding citizens of the country.
While conceding that the activities of the police force, not only that of SARS, should be reformed for optimal performance, Adeyemi warned that “we must be careful not to set the country on fire”.
“We are aware that some internet fraudsters, in a bid to continue perpetrating their criminal acts, are mobilising hoodlums to protest against the activities of SARS,” he stated.
Speaking further, the students body recalled that the IGP had ordered that SARS and other tactical units should no longer conduct checks neither should they mount road blocks.
Adeyemi, however, expressed worries that the people behind these protests are not satisfied with this.
“The police should not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anybody caught disturbing the peace of the public and causing violence all in the name of protest,” he stressed.

Alpha Beta Case Suffers As Tinubu Travel
~2.3 mins read
A bailiff of the Lagos State High Court, Igbosere, has been unable to serve a former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, with court processes thereby delaying the case instituted against the former governor and tax consultancy firm, Alpha Beta Consulting LLP.
A former Managing Director of the firm, Dapo Apara, had sued Tinubu and Alpha Beta, accusing the firm of being controlled by the former governor and diverting over N20bn from the firm to private accounts.
They were expected to appear in court within 42 days of being served with the court summons.
Speaking with Saturday PUNCH on Friday, Apara’s lawyer, Tade Ipadeola, said court bailiffs visited Tinubu’s home in Bourdillon, Ikoyi, Lagos, but were told that the former governor was out of the country.
He said a similar attempt to serve Alpha Beta at its office in the Ijora area of the state was frustrated as no one was willing to collect it, citing COVID-19.
Ipadeola said, “The court has been unable to serve the defendants. When the court bailiff got to Bourdillon, he was told that Tinubu was out of the country. Also, when the bailiff tried to serve Alpha Beta located at Water House in Ijora, nobody collected it, citing COVID-19.
“So, we will apply to the court to serve them through substituted means.”
He further stated that his client would pursue the case till the very end.
Meanwhile, Alpha Beta LLP, has denied allegations levelled against Apara, adding that he in fact diverted N6bn from the company.
Alpha Beta said in a statement by its Managing Director, Akin Doherty, that Apara was the one that was culpable as he had diverted about $5m during his time as managing director by inflating a contract which was worth about $300,000 and then diverted a separate N6bn to personal use.
The firm said it had reported Apara’s alleged fraud to the appropriate authorities but he had refused to show up and rather remained in Dubai.
In the statement titled, ‘Alpha Beta: Facts of the Matter’, the firm said Apara was an aggrieved ex-employee who was bent on tarnishing the image of the company after being sacked for financial impropriety.
It read in part, “The fact is that Dapo Apara began making his untrue allegations in the aftermath of his removal as Managing Director of Alpha Beta for fraud and unethical practices. While he was MD, Apara used his position to siphon huge sums of money from the company including but not limited to fraudulently converting $5m; money allegedly used to pay for cloud based services that were eventually discovered to be worth less than $300,000.
“Mr. Apara, who was a signatory to all the bank accounts of Alpha Beta from inception until his removal, received all his payments and entitlements until June 2018 when he was removed after his fraudulent misconduct was discovered.
“In July 2018 further evidence of his fraudulent and unethical practices was uncovered, including the revelation that he converted approximately N6bn belonging to Alpha Beta to his personal use.”
The firm said Apara’s allegations levelled against Tinubu were specious and diversionary.
Alpha Beta monitors and reconciles tax on behalf of the Lagos State Government for a commission, a contract it has been executing for over 15 years.

This Extremely Rare Bird Is Half Male, Half Female

This Extremely Rare Bird Is Half Male, Half Pictures) by Macsjebs(m): 8:32pm On Oct 09
Researchers at a nature reserve in Pennsylvania discovered a truly odd bird - one with both male and female feather coloring.

Rose-breasted grosbeaks are sexually dimorphic, meaning males and females have different color plumage.

Males have black wing feathers, pink wing pits and breast spots that give it its name, while females have brown wings, yellow wing pits and no patches on their chest.

But a grosbeak observed at Powdermill Nature Reserve was split right down the middle - pink on the right side, yellow on the left.

The condition, called bilateral gynandromorphism, means the bird is both male and female, with one ovary and one testis.

This occurs when two sperm fertilize an egg that has two nuclei instead of one, which results in the egg to develop a chromosome from each sex.

The phenomenon has been observed in less than ten birds since Powdermill's Avian Research Center began bird banding 64 years ago.

'The entire banding team was very excited to see such a rarity up close, and are riding the high of this once-in-a-lifetime experience,' said Annie Lindsay, bird banding program manager. 'One of them described it as "seeing a unicorn."'

A large, seed-eating member of the cardinal family, the rose-breasted grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus) is commonly found across eastern North America until about this time of year, when it migrates to Mexico or South America.

Since usually only the left ovary is functional in birds, and the left side of this bird is the female side, the bird could still theoretically lay eggs and reproduce.

It would depend on whether it sang like a male grosbeak, Lindsay said, which would attract females and possibly trigger an unfriendly territorial response from other males.

'Bilateral gynandromorphism, while very uncommon, is normal and provides an excellent example of a fascinating genetic process that few people ever encounter,' she said.

The extremely rare phenomenon occurs when two sperm fertilize an egg that has two nuclei instead of one.

The egg can developed male sex chromosomes on one side and female on the other, leading to a bird with a testis and other male characteristics on one half of its body and an ovary and other female characteristics on the other.

Female red-breasted grosbeaks are brown, with a thick white line above their eyes, and wing pits that are yellow.

Males have larger black feathers, with pink wing pits and pink dots on their chest.

This asymmetrical flyer was found on September 24 toward the end of the day, 'so we almost missed it,' Lindsay said.

The bird had not yet developed its breeding plumage, she added, when 'it's going to be even more starkly male, female.'

The colors will become even more vibrant, and 'the line between the male and female side will be even more obvious.'

While rare, bilateral gynandromorphism has been observed in lobsters, crabs, snakes, butterflies, bees, chickens and other birds.

Lindsay has only seen one other grosbeak exhibit the usual trait 15 year ago, but its coloration was much less striking.

She brought this grosbeak back to her lab, where she took its measurements, plucked a few feathers for DNA testing and shot some TikTok videos, before letting it go.

'The black wing on this grosbeak also measured longer than the brown side,' she told the Allegheny Front, 'which is consistent with the male of the species.'

Located about an hour outside Pittsburgh, the Powdermill Nature Reserve is part of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.Source: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-8815321/Bird-born-condition-male-female-chromosomes-exhibits-colored-feathers-sex.html
