Mothers’ numbering hundreds on Saturday hit the streets of Lagos to join the #EndSARS protest.

 

The women carrying placards marched from National stadium, Surulere, to Ojuelegba.

 

“We cannot sit back and watch them kill our children,” one of the placards read.

 

The #EndSARS protesters are currently on the streets across major cities in the country.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the ex-Finance Minister and Nigerian candidate for the office of the director-general of the WTO has been honored as Forbes Africa's 2020 “African of the Year”.

The last issue of the year which is also the most awaited, uncovered the award bestowed on the brilliant economist which recognizes the continent’s most promising citizen, leading transformation and change on an international stage annually.

According to the magazine, “Ngozi-Okonjo Iweala as the Chair of Gavi is leading the charge for the equitable distribution of the coveted Covid-19 vaccine in Africa when it arrives. Also a finalist and frontrunner in the race to become the next DG of the World Trade Organization, she is well-positioned to change the narrative of trade.”

Responding to the news, Okonjo-Iweala who graced the cover tweeted, “Thrilled to be named Forbes Africa-CNBC ‘2020 African of the Year’ following in the footsteps of my great brothers Paul Kagame and Akin Adesina.”

 Other eminent Nigerians to have bagged the award in previous years are President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Akinwumi Adesina (2019), Paul Kagame of Rwanda (2018), Former Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II (2011) and Aliko Dangote (2014).
