~1.4 mins read
A child christening party on Ojuwoye Street in the Mushin area of Lagos State has turned bloody after some attendants stabbed a guest to death on the claim that he collected food more than three times.
The Lagos State Police Command, which confirmed the incident, said it had launched a manhunt for the killers and would do everything possible to bring them to justice.
SaharaReporters learnt that the deceased, 21-year-old Saheed Adesina, on December 12 went to the child naming ceremony at about 6 pm, which was the party time.
It was gathered that while at the party, trouble ensued when a collection of food started as the caterer, whose name could not yet be ascertained, accused Adesina of collecting food for up to three times, while others had yet to be served.
The action reportedly angered some of the party attendants, and it led to a brawl during which Adesina was stabbed to death.
According to a police report from the Area D Command, Mushin, the suspects took to their heels after committing the crime, and the party came to a shocking halt.
The police said, "The father of the deceased, one Adeshina Ismaila also of Ojuwoye Street, Mushin, reported to us that his son, Saheed Adeshina, of the same address, went to a naming ceremony. Trouble ensued when he was challenged over the collection of food for more than three times with the caterer.

Meet Ryan Kaji Who Is Highest Paid YouTuber In 2020 Raking In Whopping £22M
~1.6 mins read
Ryan Kaji has made the top of the list for the third year running. The young boy earned £22 million by unboxing and reviewing toys. He's also set to earn millions from his own brand
A nine-year-old boy has been ranked as this year's highest paid YouTuber, raking in a whopping £22 million.
Ryan Kaji earns $29.5 million in a year just by "unboxing" and reviewing toys and games online.
The youngster has ranked the highest for the third year running, earning £20 million last year.
Along with his YouTube income, the lad from Texas earns $200 million from his own "Ryan's World" branded toys and clothes.
As if that's not enough – Ryan has reportedly signed an undisclosed deal for his own series on Nickelodeon, which would most likely see him earning millions more.
The child influencer started his career in 2015, when he was just four-years-old.
His family even changed their surname, Guan, to Kaji and have set up nine other channels.
Ryan's World has 41.7m subscribers and 12.2bn views, reports The Guardian.
But the family has come under fire after a complaint the videos he uploads do not disclose all sponsors properly.
“Nearly 9% of the Ryan ToysReview videos have included at least one paid product recommendation aimed at preschoolers, a group too young to distinguish between a commercial and a review.
"These advertisements often depict unhealthy foods,†according to a complaint from consumer watchdog, Truth In Advertising.
Professor of journalism and media studies, Benjamin Burroughs, has expressed concerns about the rise of child influencers.
He said: “As a child influencer, [Ryan] is being courted by companies to play with the latest toy so that other children can see it.
"But now, the child influencer himself has become a brand that is then being put into Walmart, and Target, and Amazon as its own force and influence.
"It’s pretty shocking.â€
Other YouTubers who made the list include Mr Beast (Jimmy Donaldson), $24m, in second place.
In third place is Dude Perfect, earning $23m.
The account is run by five friends – Coby Cotton, Cory Cotton, Garret Hilbert, Cody Jones and Tyler Toney who play stunts with lightsabers.

Nigerian Graduates Are More Dangerous Than Illiterates
~1.5 mins read
Nigeria is producing graduates whose education makes them more dangerous than uneducated people - Afe Babalola
Founder of Afe Babalola University in Ado-Ekiti, (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), says Nigeria's standard of education has fallen so drastically that graduates from Nigerian Universities have become more dangerous than uneducated people in the society, IgbereTV reports.
Babalola stated this when he spoke at a reception held in Igbajo, Boluwaduro Local Government Area of Osun State for Prof. Damilola Olawuyi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Research and Strategic Partnerships of the institution who recently became a Senior Advovate of Nigeria (SAN).
“The common saying is that ignorance is a disease. I do agree. Indeed, poor education is worse than illiteracy. Poor education is even more dangerous than ignorance. But what do we have today?
Due to poor education, Nigeria is today producing graduates whose education makes them more dangerous than uneducated people. Today, Nigeria produces graduates who cannot write simple and correct sentences; graduates who do not understand the difference between transitive and intransitive verbs.
We have graduates who do not know the place and import of prepositions in grammar; graduates who do not know the use of adjectives and adverbs; graduates who do not know the place of agreement of nouns and number; graduates who do not know the import of adjectival and adverbial clauses.
There are graduates who do not know the difference between Tropics of Cancer and Tropics of Capricorn. There are those who do not know Magellan line, that is, the line that divides the earth into two.
There are many graduates who do not know the distance between the earth and where the rain starts to fall. There are also those who do not know why we have day and night or the difference between Neap or High Tide or the fact that what is called heaven consists of billions of stars and different planets.
“Whereas our towns will only be better if we have quality education, our nation will be better if we have quality education, and the world will be better if we all have quality education,†he said.

FG Extends Deadline For NiN Registration
~0.7 mins read
The federal government on Monday announced an extension for Nigerians to connect their National Identification Number (NIN) to their telephone numbers.
Last week, communications minister Isa Patami said any telecom subscriber that failed to submit NIN to its network provider within two weeks would be blocked from December 31.
Following criticisms from citizens, however, subscribers with NIN have now been given three weeks’ extension to get their NIN linked with their mobile lines; while those without NIN are given six weeks to get their NIN and link it to their lines.
This was announced in a statement jointly issued by Director-General, National Identity Management Commission, Aliyu Aziz, and his Nigerian Communications Commission counterpart, Umar Danbatta, on Monday.
“Three (3) weeks extension for subscribers with NIN from 30th December, 2020 to 19th January, 2021; and “Six (6) weeks extension for subscribers without NIN from 30th December, 2020 to 9th February, 2021â€, the statement reads.
Peoples Gazette reported how the initial December 31 deadline threatened disconnection of over 163 million telecom subscribers.

NIMC Shuts Lagos Office To NiN Registrants
~3.6 mins read
The process for NIN registration has been put on hold at NIMC Lagos office until further notice.
Hundreds of Lagos residents who approached the office of the National Identity Management a Commission (NIMC) had their hopes of registering for a National Identity Number (NIN) shattered as the commission shut its doors against people.
A PREMIUM TIMES reporter, who visited the NIMC office at Ikeja, saw many people lamenting how the commission lacks good management and wasted their time.
“I got here at 4 a.m. When I got there, I met like 300 people already on ground. I got slot 138 and it is because I begged someone that allowed me stay at his front,†a resident who identified himself as David said.
An 85-year-old man, Fatai Akinbile, who was at the NIMC office to correct his date of birth, expressed how bitter he felt with the entire process.
“I came from Ajah, left the house very early. The issue is they wrote 1953 as my date of birth instead of 1935. I have made attempts to correct it and they referred me to Ikeja,†he said
Mr Akinbile, who said he did not understand the announcement that SIM cards will be blocked, said he had been on the process for long and it is tiring for him.
“I have someone here that offered to help me but when I got here this morning, they say we cannot enter and they are not working,†he said.
Several people interviewed by PREMIUM TIMES said the commission shut down abruptly after distributing forms to some of them, saying they got an order from Abuja to stop.
“They chased everybody saying if we don’t go away, they will call the police. Of a truth, the police arrived shortly,†another person who declined giving his name said.
A PREMIUM TIMES reporter saw police vehicles and some police officers at the entrance of NIMC office with the commission’s doors shut and no official present.
The process was stopped until further notice.
Background
The Nigerian government had announced last week that subscribers to all networks in the country are mandated to provide their NIN, else, they would be blocked from using their SIM cards.
The government gave two weeks deadline, after which SIM cards without NIN will be blocked.
Communicating the directive, the spokesperson of NIMC said the major telephone networks must require all their subscribers to provide their NIN.
“The submission of NIN by subscribers to take place within two weeks (from today December 16, 2020 and end by 30 December, 2020).
“After the deadline, ALL SIMs without NINs are to be blocked from the networks.
“A Ministerial Task Force comprising the Minister and all the CEOs (among others) as members is to monitor compliance by all networks. Violations of this directive will be met by stiff sanctions, including the possibility of withdrawal of operating License,†the statement reads.
Despite the short notice and outrage by Nigerians, the government said there would be no extension of the deadline.
NIMC shuts down
In a bid to prevent their SIM cards being blocked, hundreds of Lagos residents on Monday stormed the NIMC office at Alausa, Ikeja.
The office, which opened officially at 8 a.m., had numerous people waiting at the gate as early as 5 a.m. to be registered.
The enrollees complained of not being able to register for NIN at their various local governments as the officials allegedly collect money for form and end up referring them to the Alausa office for the completion of their NIN.
“I got here at 7 a.m., the crowd here was much. Shortly after I arrived they distributed forms to people based on the slot their earlier gave.
“I struggled to get number 167, but when it was time for form collection, I got form with number 118,†Olamide Mustapha said.
He said after the gate was opened and the first person called in for his biometric capturing, a man came him and ordered the NIMC officials to stop.
“He said it was order from above and it is because of COVID-19, †Mr Mustapha said.
The commission’s office was subsequently shut down and many of the enrollees dispersed.
Another enrollee, Bayo Adeyemi, who came from Ikotun, told PREMIUM TIMES that the commission lacks good management as there was no coordination and people were left attended to for a long.
COVID-19 protocols
Many enrollees interviewed by PREMIUM TIMES confirmed that there was no compliance with COVID-19 protocols as the crowd was “uncontrollable.â€
Although many had their face masks on, there was no physical distancing.
“No COVID-19 protocol was observed, people were too much, no queue was maintained. You know the typical nature of people, everybody wants to register at once, it was really bad,†an enrollee said.
The enrollment process has, however, been stopped until further notice and the crowd at the NIMC office dispersed.

Universities To Reopen In January 2021
~1.3 mins read
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, says the Academic Activities in Nigeria Universities will resume January.
He says the negotiations between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal government had reached 98 percent, adding that it remains only two percent to be completed
He spoke Monday in Alor, Idemili South local government area of Anambra State, during the launch of Ngige free medical outreach at the Community's Health Center.
Ngige said, "We have met about 98 percent of the request of ASUU. Some 5 to 2 percent is what you can call promissory notes.
"So, I am very hopeful that by midnight today, there are some works we are supposed to get on to do. They also have some work they are supposed to do on their own side with their people.
"Tuesday, we will meet in the afternoon and we will compare notes. We will put everything on the table and compare. I believe that we might have come to the end of the strike when we meet tomorrow.
"Well, it is a journey of a thousand miles which you will have to take one step first. Tomorrow, all things being equal, we will agree now to agree because we were disagreeing before.
"We disagree to agree and agree to disagree formerly. But tomorrow, I hope we will agree to agree. Once we do that, schools will re - open in January," the Minister said.
Meanwhile, Ngige said the free medical outreach that was launched in Alor Monday, was equally extended to neighbouring communities like Abatete, Oraukwu, Ideani and Nnobi among others
He said those with different ailments like hepatitis, eye problems among others should go and be treated free of charge, adding that about 15 medical Doctors in different fields would handle the cases at the Health Center
