Divine Shadow Church Burnt Down Over Missing Manhood
~2.2 mins read
Angry youths of Daudu community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, on Tuesday, set ablaze Divine Shadow Church in Daudu over allegation connecting its founder, one Prophet Joshua Uhembe, to disappearance of male genitals in the community.

Photo of the church burnt down

The youths had three days ago protested on the major Makurdi – Lafia highway over what they described as the disappearance of six persons’ manhood in the community within one month.

Our correspondent recalled that one young man accused of stealing the genitals committed suicide last month in a classroom in the locality which also hosts three Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDPs) camps.

But in the fresh arson of the church, the youths alleged that Prophet Uhembe and his accomplice, Noah Saka, were masterminds of the genitals disappearance.

Nongu Francis, who claimed to be a victim, told our correspondent that his genital was stolen on October,10 this year allegedly by the deceased who committed suicide.

Francis said he had worked in the farm of the deceased who later lured him to perform some bathing rituals with an instruction to stay away from sex for about six days, stressing that after obeying the command, he could no longer function sexually.

The victim further alleged that his situation was similar to many others who were bewitched by the deceased and his accomplice who would later recommend their victims to the accused prophet for deliverance and possible restoration of their organs.

Francis said his case was not a total disappearance but inability to get erection as it were before the ritual bath, adding that he now remains hopeless following the death of the accused man.

Another youth from the community, who simply identified himself as Jonah, said the continuing disappearance of the victims’ male organ propelled the burning of the church whose prophet the community suspected was instrumental to the alleged act unsettling youths of the community.

“We are surprised that someone who calls himself a man of God will stoop so low to be removing private parts of men for ritual purposes.

“The youths have done this to serve as deterrent to other people who may have such wicked intentions.

“We believed that if he [Uhembe] is not stopped, he may extend his activities to women too,” another angry youth alleged.

Our correspondent, however, could not traced the accused prophet for his comment at the time of sending this report, as some villagers alleged that he fled the scene of fire in his church.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Benue Command, DSP Catherine Anene, has confirmed the burning of the church, adding that some persons were also arrested for destruction of public property.

“If you allege that somebody took your manhood, it is not a justification for you to go and destroy property.

“There is due process for everything.

“So, while they are at the hospital to confirm whether that is true, we will still handle them [the protesters] as people who have destroyed property,” Anene maintained.

Meet The Man From Delta Who Made The Video That Sparked #endsars Protest
~3.4 mins read
Despite my ordeal, no regret for my actions – Man whose viral video sparked #EndSARS protests

…Tells his story of arrest, detention

He obviously didn’t know that the video he was shooting at Ughelli, Delta State would trigger an outrage that would reverberate across the country.

Prince Nicholas Makolomi merely felt he owed it a duty to alert the authorities and Nigerians to the illegal activities of some policemen.

But once uploaded on the social media, the video went viral as it generated interest especially among activists opposed to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the police.

The development sparked tension across the country and led to a mob attack on an off-duty SARS operative, Sergeant Ohwovwiogor Fidelis, at the Ughelli Central Garage axis with the mob him attempting to set him ablaze but for the intervention of a Good Samaritan.

Makolomi was subsequently arrested by the police but not before he had told his story.

He had told Sunday Vanguard: “After the boy (Joshua Ambrose) was arrested on that Saturday, he was kept at the passenger’s side of the car behind the front seat.

“While we were driving in our car behind the police vehicle, suddenly the boy jumped from the car and fell on the roadside after which we chased after the police car while making the video.”

The video gained widespread traction before exploding into #EndSARS protests since penultimate Wednesday.

The anti-police campaign has inevitably claimed lives in Lagos and Ogbomoso in Oyo State.

Speaking to Sunday Vanguard on the turn of events, Makolomi, who regained freedom penultimate Friday from the custody of the police, which had threatened to prosecute him for allegedly inciting violence and distributing false information contrary to the cyber law, said although he felt he made a mistake by shooting the video and uploading it on social media, he had no regrets for his actions.

The business administration graduate from the Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu and father of two said he shot the video and uploaded it on the social media in a bid to alert Nigerians, the police authorities and government on the unwholesome activities of some policemen.

Giving details of how he was arrested, Makolomi, a member of the royal family of Ughelli Kingdom, said: “I was at home in Ughelli when I received a call from a friend that I should meet him at the popular Delta Mall in Effurun.

“But as soon as I got to the mall, by the gate, I was accosted by a team of policemen who took me to the Ebrumede Police Station.”

Describing himself as an entertainer and sound engineer, he debunked reports that he shot the video to spite the police.

“When I shot the video, I actually meant no harm. I honestly did it as a concerned citizen on the actions of some policemen even though I later came out to the public through my social media handle to say the victim in question (Joshua Ambrose) was still alive and not dead as earlier portrayed” Makolomi said.

“From Ebrumede Police Station, I was taken to the ‘Safe Delta’ Headquarters at Isele-Azagba where I was held for three days before I was taken to the State Police Headquarters from where I was taken to court. While in custody, I was never beaten or assaulted by the police.”

Asked if he regretted his actions, Makolomi, who described himself as the face of the #ENDSARS campaign, said: â€œI actually felt I made a mistake with the video which went viral, but I never realized that the average Nigerian youth were already vexed with the activities of the average police personnel as reflected in the outcry that trailed the video.

“Despite my ordeal and my subsequent release, I do not have any regret for my actions because Nigeria has to be great again and what I did was what every citizen will do.

“My advice to the average Nigerian youth especially those participating in the #ENDSARS protest is that they should not allow themselves to be provoked and pushed into taking the law into their hands as long as they are fighting for a just cause.”

Commending the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, and the Ughelli North council chairman, Chief Godwin Adode, for facilitating his release, he said: “For the Nigerian government, I want to appreciate them for rising up to the challenge by quickly responding to the demands and agitations of the youths having be made aware of the nefarious activities of some police operatives in the country and I also thank Chiefs Keyamo and Adode for facilitating my release.”

How My Wife Was Rescued From The Burning And Destruction Of TVC News.--Mark Odigie
~4.8 mins read

The atmosphere around the city was tense and uncertain. The night before had been characterised by the cries of innocent peaceful protesters at the Lekki toll plaza, who were faced by the bullets of trigger-happy soldiers.
Tuesday’s brutal attack by these soldiers who were drafted to maintain peace and order following the curfew earlier imposed by the state’s governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been condemned by many.
So on Wednesday morning, Mark Odigie, an information technologist, could not permit his wife, Tope Mark Odigie, to drive alone to nearby Ketu-Ikosi Road, headquarters of Television Continental (TVC), where she works as a co-host of the station’s popular breakfast talk show- Your View.
“So I decided to drive her to the office, leaving our two nine-year-old kids at home,” he said.
Mr Odigie said he stayed at the carpark inside his Mazda CX-9 SUV waiting to take his wife back home since the programme was billed to end by 11 a.m. But that was not to be.
Apart from watching his car burn to ashes, Mr Odigie could only be reunited with his wife after hours of emotional and physical torture. He said those who razed the station to the ground were too “sophisticated attackers to be called miscreants.”
He told this newspaper his confusion about the whole scenario, saying; “I couldn’t call these guys (the arsonists) miscreants. They were pretty much educated, and spoke good English. They were very organised, and chanted; “No killing,” “No killing;” “Just destroy,” “Just destroy;” “We have our targets.”
“It was at that point that I began to wonder what was really going on. They were very clear about what they came for.”
Narrating how it all started, Mr Odigie said midway into “Your View,” a multitude of young men armed with dangerous weapons such as machetes, axes, knifes, sticks and petrol bombs, invaded the compound through its gate that leads to Aladelola Street in Ketu.
“Before the attack, there were about four RRS (Rapid Response Squad) vans and close to 20 police officers within the compound. But the moment these boys came in, the officers simply took to their heels and disappeared through the gate that leads to the CMD road,” he explained.
He said other workers, who escaped the attack, also scampered for safety but still hung around because “no one was sure of where to go.”
But for his wife and her colleague, Morayo Afolabi-Brown, and a few other technical officers including cameramen, the soundproofing in the studio prevented them from sniffing danger hovering around them.
So as the fire raged, and with his car burning at the carpark, Mr. Odigie said what preoccupied his mind was his wife’s whereabouts, and how to rescue her from the inferno.
Police refused appeal for rescue
After waiting without any hope of his wife escaping the violence, Mr Odigie approached the police officers who he said were gathered on the CMD road watching the smoke billowing from the burning building, and sought their help to rescue his wife. But his plea fell on deaf ears.
He said; “Suddenly, I developed a heart of stone and decided to go in because I wanted to rescue my wife. I felt whatever that would happen should happen. So I begged a few TVC workers who were also standing at the CMD gate, to join me. About five of them summoned courage and agreed to go in with me. Some ladies kept shouting and were crying as if we were going to die.
“So we went in, and saw hundreds of the attackers. They shouted at us asking us who we were. We raised our hands and simply replied; “We are with you.” We told them our colleagues were still in there. And surprisingly, they listened to us. They told us they already rescued everybody. They said they were not interested in killing anyone.”
Mr. Odigie said when he insisted that his wife was still trapped in the building, they then volunteered to take them out of the compound to see those they had rescued.
“So they took us to the back where we met another crowd who were throwing petrol bombs and chanting “no killing, no killing.” As soon as we were brought before them the crowd charged at us, but one of them that led us there quickly took charge and explained what happened,” he narrated.
He said immediately after the explanation, one of them described Mrs Mark-Odigie’s appearance to the husband and mentioned Morayo as the second lady they just rescued. Then they decided to take them to Oshonaike community, near the station, where both his wife and her colleague were kept.
At the Oshonaike community, the residents took custody of them for the next five hours “until they said the coast was clear for us to move, and we were led out of the community to a path leading to Magodo.”
Amidst trepidation, they trekked home to the waiting arms of their children.
But while narrating their experience to their custodians at the Oshonaike community, Mrs Afolabi-Brown spoke about her seized phone.
“Suddenly some of the guys listening to the narration said they would talk to them to return it. Lo and behold, before we left the community later in the day, the phone was brought to Morayo,” he explained.
The development further heightened Mr. Odigie’s confusion, saying he was left further bewildered.
Your View back on air
But in spite of the trauma of Wednesday and like soldiers at the warfront, both Mrs Mark Odigie and her colleague- Afolabi Brown, said no retreat, no surrender. On Thursday morning they were back on set to present their favourite programme. Though there was no longer a studio to use, they deployed social media to the rescue.
While narrating their ordeal on the programme, the journalists said the experience was a mixed grill. Though they said the attackers were very lenient on them, they threw a few punches on Mrs Afolabi Brown’s heads.
“One of them initially rummaged my handbag but others quickly intervened and reiterated that the mission was neither to kill nor steal,” Mrs Mark Odigie said.
They have since returned to their social media handles, thanking Nigerians for their prayers and best wishes, and singing praises to God.
Station counts cost
Meanwhile, the management of both the television and the radio stations have since taken stock of the damage, with a total of 44 vehicles burnt, four outside broadcasting (OB) vans, three production control rooms, Two Master Control Room (MCR) studio playout machines, completely burnt.
There is yet no official statement on the next line of action but soldiers have taken over the security of the facility, and cordoned off the place.

Full Test Of President Buhari Speech On #ENDSARS Protest.
~4.7 mins read
ADDRESS TO THE NATION BY HIS EXCELLENCY, MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA ON THE ENDSARS PROTESTS, 22ND OCTOBER, 2020

Fellow Nigerians,
It has become necessary for me to address you having heard from many concerned Nigerians and having concluded a meeting with all the Security Chiefs.
2. I must warn those who have hijacked and misdirected the initial, genuine and well - intended protest of some of our youths in parts of the country, against the excesses of some members of the now disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
3. On Monday 12th October, I acknowledged the genuine concerns and agitations of members of the public regarding the excessive use of force by some members of SARS.
4. The choice to demonstrate peacefully is a fundamental right of citizens as enshrined in Section 40 of our Constitution and other enactments; but this right to protest also imposes on the demonstrators the responsibility to respect the rights of other citizens, and the necessity to operate within the law.
5. As a democratic government, we listened to, and carefully evaluated the five-point demands of the protesters. And, having accepted them, we immediately scrapped SARS, and put measures in place to address the other demands of our youth.
6. On approving the termination of SARS, I already made it clear that it was in line with our commitment to the implementation of extensive Police reforms.
7. Sadly, the promptness with which we have acted seemed to have been misconstrued as a sign of weakness and twisted by some for their selfish unpatriotic interests.
8. The result of this is clear to all observers: human lives have been lost; acts of sexual violence have been reported; two major correctional facilities were attacked and convicts freed; public and private properties completely destroyed or vandalised; the sanctity of the Palace of a Peace Maker, the Oba of Lagos has been violated. So-called protesters have invaded an International Airport and in the process disrupted the travel plans of fellow Nigerians and our visitors.
9. All these executed in the name of the ENDSARS protests. I am indeed deeply pained that innocent lives have been lost. These tragedies are uncalled for and unnecessary. Certainly, there is no way whatsoever to connect these bad acts to legitimate expression of grievance of the youth of our country.
10. The spreading of deliberate falsehood and misinformation through the social media in particular, that this government is oblivious to the pains and plight of its citizens is a ploy to mislead the unwary within and outside Nigeria into unfair judgement and disruptive behaviour.
11. On the contrary, both our deeds and words have shown how committed this administration has been to the wellbeing and welfare of citizens, even with the steadily dwindling revenues, and the added responsibilities and restrictions due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
12. Government has put in place measures and initiatives principally targeted at youths, women and the most vulnerable groups in our society. These included our broad plan to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years; the creation of N75 billion National Youth Investment Fund to provide opportunities for the youths and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Survival Fund, through which government is:
a. paying three months salaries of the staff of 100,000 micro, small - and medium - enterprises,
b. paying for the registration of 250,000 businesses at the Corporate Affairs Commission,
c. giving a grant of N30,000 to 100,000 artisans; and
d. guaranteeing market for the products of traders.
13. These are in addition to many other initiatives such as;
a. Farmermoni,
b. Tradermoni,
c. Marketmoni,
d. N-Power,
e. N-Tech and
f. N-Agro.
14. No Nigerian Government in the past has methodically and seriously approached poverty-alleviation like we have done.
15. With regard to the welfare of police personnel, the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission has been directed to expedite action on the finalization of the new salary structure of members of the Nigeria Police Force. The emoluments of other paramilitary services are also being reviewed upwards.
16. In order to underscore the importance of education in preparing youths for the future, this administration has come up with a new salary structure and other incentives for our teachers.
17. Let me at this point reaffirm the Federal Government’s commitment to preserving the unity of this country.
18. We will continue to improve good governance and our democratic process, including through sustained engagement.
19. We shall continue to ensure that liberty and freedom, as well as the fundamental rights of all citizens are protected.
20. But remember that government also has the obligation to protect lives and properties, as well as the right of citizens to go about their daily businesses freely and protected from acts of violence.
21. To our neighbours in particular, and members of the international community, many of whom have expressed concern about the ongoing development in Nigeria, we thank you and urge you all to seek to know all the facts available before taking a position or rushing to judgment and making hasty pronouncements.
22. In the circumstances, I would like to appeal to protesters to note and take advantage of the various well-thought-out initiatives of this administration designed to make their lives better and more meaningful, and resist the temptation of being used by some subversive elements to cause chaos with the aim of truncating our nascent democracy.
23. For you to do otherwise will amount to undermining national security and the law and order situation. Under no circumstances will this be tolerated.
24. I therefore call on our youths to discontinue the street protests and constructively engage government in finding solutions. Your voice has been heard loud and clear and we are responding.
25. And I call on all Nigerians to go about their normal businesses, and enjoin security agencies to protect lives and properties of all law abiding citizens without doing harm to those they are meant to protect. Let me pay tribute to officers of the Nigeria Police Force who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty.
26. I would like to thank those state Governors, traditional and religious leaders who have appealed for calm and restraint. I also thank youth leaders who have restrained their followers from taking the law into their hands.
27. This government respects and will continue to respect all the democratic rights and civil liberties of the people, but it will not allow anybody or groups to disrupt the peace of our nation.
Thank you all. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Mesut Ozil Has Been Left Behind As Arsenal Make 25 Man Europa League Squad
~3.1 mins read
Squad for the group stages by Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has been shortlisted with two big names missing.
Mesut Ozil has been left out of Arsenal’s 25-man squad for the Europa League group stages.
The club’s highest earning player - who pockets £350,000 ($454,000) a week - is one of two senior players who has been cut by boss Mikel Arteta, whose 25-man squad for the competition is only allowed to include 17 ‘non locally trained players’.
With 19 to choose from, however, Arteta has had to decide which two he would not involve - and Ozil, along with defender Sokratis, has been left out.

Given the German has not played a single minute since football’s restart in June following the coronavirus enforced suspension, it is perhaps no surprise to see him axed from the squad.
Yet the fact he is the club’s highest earner still makes his omission eye-catching, especially as Arteta is expected to use the group stages of the Europa League as an opportunity to give some game time to players who have not been featuring much in the Premier League.

The decision comes just a day after Ozil publicly stated he would be willing to pay the wages of Jerry Quy, the man who has played the role of Gunnersaurus - the Arsenal mascot - for the past 27 years. Ozil’s took to social media to make the offer after it emerged that Quy had been made redundant.

“I was so sad that Jerry Quy aka our famous and loyal mascot Gunnersaurus and integral part of our club was being made redundant after 27 years,” said the former Real Madridstar. “As such, I’m offering to reimburse Arsenal with the full salary of our big green guy as long as I will be an Arsenal player so Jerry can continue his job that he loves so much.”

Ozil’s last appearance for Arsenal came in the win against West Ham in March, the final match before football was suspended due to the pandemic.
He has not even made a matchday squad this season, even in the Carabao Cup when Arteta has rung the changes.
When quizzed on the playmaker’s absence after the 2-0 win at Leicester last month, the Arsenal boss said: “The team is evolving, you can see the level they are achieving. This is where we are at the moment. We want to evolve more and play better and compete better.

“You can see that the players we are changing, we are using, it's very difficult every week not just for Mesut but for some other players as well to make the squad. Every week we try to pick the right players.
Do you think Ozil should be dropped?
Drop your comments.

Nine Ways To Save Your Electricity Consumption NERC
~2.3 mins read
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory  Commission (NERC) have put together nine common ways to save your electricity consumption. This is in light with the recent increase in electricity billing in Nigeria. Can you share some of the ways you save electricity consumption in your residence or place of business? We will be glad to learn from you as we look forward to a better country.

1. Turn off lights and electrical appliances when not in use: don't leave your electronics or lightbulbs on all day long. Put off all necessary electric appliance as you leave your house including bulbs.

2. Switch to energy-efficient light bulbs:
Traditional light bulbs waste 95% of the energy they use giving off heat, with only 5% going toward the light. Switch them out or use them sparingly.
Leaving them on for long periods is highly wasteful. Halogen incandescent bulbs, compact fluorescent lights (CFLs), and light-emitting diode bulbs (LEDs) use anywhere from 25-80 percent less electricity and last 3 to 25 times longer than traditional bulbs.

3. Reduce the use of water heaters:
Water heating is a major contributor to your total energy consumption. Other than purchasing an energy-efficient water heater, there are two methods of reducing your water heating expenses, you can simply use less hot water or turn down the thermostat on your water heater. Please consult a professional when you intend to take  steps to reduce the thermostat of your home appliances.

4. Purchase energy efficient appliances:
Appliances account for a large amount of enemy consumed in households, offices, and industries. With this in mind, it is important to be intentional about purchases made to ensure that energy efficient appliances are installed. Although energy saving bulbs are costly they also last long and are more economical as   some could last for several months or years, original economy touch bulbs are cheap and durable.

5. Set refrigerator temperature to the manufacturers recommendation:
This is important to avoid excessive cooling and wasting energy. When food stuff have been completely frozen, the fridge can be put off for hours to save energy and power.

6. Unplug battery chargers when not in use:
Many devices including battery chargers draw power continuously even when not in use. This includes phone battery chargers. This will also prevent electric explosion in the house or offices.

7. Plug home electronics into power strips:
Use power strips such as adaptors and extension boards to reduce energy consumption Turn the power strips off when equipment is not in use. You'll stop these devices from using energy when idle with one convenient switch.
This is very beneficial as it also prevent accidental shock and the life span of the adaptor when not in use.

8. Bring in sunlight:
During daylight hours, switch off artificial lights and use windows and skylights to brighten your home. Make sure that your house is well ventilated during construction and keep the glass clean.

9. Service your air conditioner:
Easy maintenance, such as routinely replacing or cleaning air filters can lower your cooling systems energy consumption. It does not cost much to service our air conditioner and this will make it last long.
