Police Arrests 50-year Old Man For Burying Grandson Alive In Bauchi

A 50-year old man, Bawada Audu, has been arrested by the Police in Bauchi State for allegedly burying his grandson alive.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Ahmed Wakil, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Bauchi on Saturday.
He said that the suspect’s 17-year old daughter who was allegedly raped in January this year, gave birth on 14th September, 2020 and he was infuriated and decided to kill the child by burying him alive.
Wakil said that after a joint operation by the Police and a Human Rights Group, the baby was exhumed and taken to the hospital where he was certified dead by a medical doctor.
“On 16th September, 2020 at about 10.00am, a joint operation between the Police and Human Right have brough one Hafsat Bawada, (17) of Rimin Zayam in Toro L.G.A of Bauchi state to the Divisional Headquarters Toro, who was alleged to have given birth to a male child on 14th September, 2020 at about 2am.
“Her father, Bawada Audu, Male, (50) of the same address seized the child and buried the Baby behind his house. 
“Upon receipt of the report, the baby was exhumed and was rushed to the General Hospital where he was certified dead by the a Medical Doctor. 
“Moreover, Hafsat pointed one Danjuma Malam Uba, Male, of the same address, and who is now at large, as having had carnal knowledge of her sometime in January 2020,” he said.
According to him, Hafsat was released and the corpse was also released to the village head of Rimin Ziyam for burial adding that the suspect was arrested and he confessed to the crime. 
He said that on 5th September, 2020 at about 7pm, one Musa Bala, Male of Karofin Madaki in Bauchi metropolis, came to ‘A’ Division and reported that on the same date at about 10.00am, two if his daughters were gang raped by four men.
“Two of his daughters named Hauwa (not real name), female (13) of Bakaro in Bauchi and Zainab (not real name), female of Karofin Madaki Bauchi, went to Sabon Kaura Village, Inkil and they were reportedly raped by four men.”
According to him, the four suspects, Nazif Mohammed, Ukacha Abubakar, Sharif Abubakar, and Ibrahim Umar, all residents of Sabon Kaura village, Inkil, were arrested.
He said that investigation is in progress after which the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution as soon as possible.
The Police PRO further said that a 17-year old was also arrested for raping two children after their mothers reported the matter to the Police.
“On the 17th September, 2020 at about 6.09pm, one Hannatu Sadiq, female, (35) of Nassarawa Jahun Bauchi and Hajara Abdullahi, female, (25) of the same address jointly came to ‘D’ Division Bauchi and reported that on the same date at about 4pm, one Daniel James, (17) of the same address raped their two daughters named Hasiya (not real name) (7) and Hauwa (not real name) (5) of the same address. 
“Upon receipt of the report, a team of Policemen was drafted to the scene and the victims were rushed to the General Hospital Bauchi for medical examination,” he stated.
He said that the suspect was arrested and during interrogation, he confessed to the crime and also confessed to be a sodomist adding that investigation was in progress after which the suspect would be charge to court for prosecution. 
Furthermore, Wakil informed that on the 2nd August, 2020 at about 7.30pm, one Abubakar Mustapha, Male of Mararraban Liman Katagum came to the Divisional Headquarters Liman Katagum and reported that on the same date at about 4pm, one Munkaila Ladan, Male, (18) of Kutaru village, raped the daughter of one Abubakar Mustapha named Hadiza (not real name), (8) of the same address at the outskirts of the area.
“Upon receipt of the report, a team of detectives were drafted to the scene victim was rushed to Hospital for medical examination. The suspect was arrested and confessed to the crime,” he stated.
He added that: “The Commissioner of Police Bauchi state Command, Lawan Jimeta, commended members of the public especially those that keyed into Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and called on parents/guardians to closely monitor their children and equally sensitize them to keep distance from people of bad character.”
According to Wakil, Jimeta, while reaffirming his zero tolerance for corruption and other social vices, ordered the suspects to be profiled, properly investigated and charged to court without any delay. 
He urged the members of the public not to relent in providing useful information that may assist the Police in making the state safe and to ensure that everyone sleep with their two eyes closed.
