Jailed Ex-Pension Boss, Maina ‘Imprisoned’ In Well-Furnished, Air-Conditioned Building, Never Seen A Cell— Report

Former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina, is currently “living like a king” in a well-furnished, air-conditioned space at the Kuje correctional facility.

According to a report by FIJ, a prison source said Maina, who was sentenced to prison for money laundering, has never been to a prison cell.

On Monday, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja held that Maina stole over N2 billion belonging to pensioners.

It said most of the victims "have died without reaping the fruits of their labour”.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in 2015 declared Maina wanted.

The commission, in a statement by its spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, had said Maina was wanted for his role in the fraudulent biometric contracts through which he, a former Head of Service, Steve Oronsaye, and two others allegedly stole over N2 billion of pension funds.

But on Monday, the court convicted and sentenced Maina to 61 years in prison for money laundering.

Meanwhile, prison sources told the newspaper that the former PRTT boss had never been to a prison cell.

Professor Shehu Bida is dead.

The first Professor in Nupe land and the first Professor of Veterinary Medicine in Northern Nigeria, Professor Shehu Bida is dead.

He died at the age of 86 in his country home, Bida, Niger state after a brief illness on Thursday.

Niger state Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello and the Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has described the death of Prof Shehu Bida, Marafan Nupe, as a monumental loss to the Nupe Kingdom, Niger state and the country.

In a condolence message, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello said that the Professorâ€™s demise was not just a loss to the North but the country at large adding that he was a rare gem that contributed immensely to the development of the Northern region.

BREAKING: Renowned economist Okumagba dies

Also, renowned economist and stockbroker, Albert Egbaroghene Okumagba, is dead. He was said to have passed on in Abuja.

Born into the popular Okumagba family in Warri, the investment expert was 56.

A family source confirmed the incident to The Nation, Thursday on evening.

Former Delta Governor James Ibori also confirmed the passage of late Okumagba on his Facebook page. Ibori wrote: â€œEgba Why? Rest in Peace, my dear brotherâ€.

Man Kills Himself After Shooting His Wife In The Eyes [PHOTO]

Austin Umera, a former lecturer of the Department of Languages, Kaduna Polytechnic, has killed himself.

According to Tribune Online, the man shot his wife in the eyes before killing himself.

An eye witness told Tribune Online that the deceased attacked his wife in the early hours of Thursday with the aim of taking her life.

â€œWe heard gunshots from the house and we quickly called the emergency number. Immediately the policemen arrived at the residence at Kigo Road.

According to the source, the police took the injured wife to the hospital because she was shot in the eyes. While the dead body of her husband was lying on the ground.

Court Orders Arrest Of Atikuâ€™s Son

The Upper Area Court, Kubwa, Abuja, on Thursday, ordered the immediate arrest of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, son of Nigeriaâ€™s former Vice President.

The order was made by the judge, Hon Bashir Danmaisule, following Abubakarâ€™s failure to comply with a judgment that he should hand over their three sons to his divorced wife, Maryam Sherif.

Sherif had, last year, instituted a case against Abubakar, at the Upper Area Court, Gudu with number CV/41/2019, which was later transferred to the Upper Area Court, Kubwa, with number CV/16/2020 seeking the court to grant her custody of her three sons.

The court, on October 27, 2020, delivered judgment on the matter, ordering Abubakar to hand over their three sons to his divorced wife and their mother, Sherif, with immediate effect.

Africa Cup Of Nation Qualification Table After Yesterday's Matches

We saw matches that went down in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers yesterday as the Group stage fixtures continued.

Ethiopia defeated Niger 3-0 as they closed in on the Group K table, it was a great match an outstanding performance from Ethiopia as they grabbed all three points, Gebremichael, Mesud Mohammed and Getaneh Kebede scored the three goals for Ethiopia as they won in yesterday's fixture.

Egypt won Togo 3-1 as they topped the Group G table, Togo who are yet to record a win in this competition surrended three goals to Egypt and scored a consolation goal in the second half, Mohamed Kafsha, Mohamed Shariff and Trezeguet scored for Egypt as they secured a win and grabbed three points.

Morocco defeated Central African Republic as they lead the Group E table, Hakim Ziyech was magical in yesterday's match aspect he scored the opening goal for Morocco in the first half of the match and provided an assist for Youssef En-Nesyri to score the second, he was awarded the man of the match.

Angola lost 1-0 to DR Congo as DR Congo closed in on the Group D table, Neeskens Kebano gave DR Congo the lead in the first half of the match and they held on to their lead till the match ended.

Sudan defeated Ghana 1-0 in yesterday's fixture as Ghana hadn't their first lose in the competition, it was a outstanding display of football from Sudan as Mohamed Rahman scored the only goal of the match.

Mali defeated Namibia 2-1 as they top the Group A table, it was a big win for Mali as Sekou Koita opened the scoring for the visitors, Moussa Doumbia doubled their lead in the first half of the match and Elmo Kambindu scored a consolation goal for Namibia.

Nigeria had a dissapointing 0-0 draw as they face serria leone in the second leg of the round, in the first leg both teams drew 4-4 after serria leone made a dramatic comeback to share the points. Nigeria still lead the Group L table, Serria leone are yet to record a win in this competition.

Benin Republic and Lesotho also had a disappointing goalless draw after poor performance, Benin Republic falls in second place behind Nigeria in the Group L table.

There is a mass resignation by police officers, in the aftermath of the death of a few police officers, especially at a time when the end SARS protest, became violent, with the coming in, of thugs and hoodlums. These hoodlums killed band burnt a few policemen, which puts the lives of other living police officers and men, in danger.

Most of these police officers are tired of the job, because of the threat to their lives. It is not enough for the Inspector General, to reject the mass resignation. It is to find out why are they seeking for a resignation.

The high command must examine why the resignation of police officers.

The police force is underfunded, with a poor salary structure, which explains why a whole lot of them, are not motivated to do their job properly.

The way the police system treat police officers is unfair. Some may be transferred with no place for accommodation, and also poor salaries.

The police hierarchy is too corrupt, the Inspector General of Police and Commissioners of police in the thirty six states of the federation, are corrupt and doesn't allow the money to get down to the lower ranks in the police force.

There is need to build the confidence of the police officers.

October 20, 2020, is a day a lot of Nigerians will never forget in a hurry. It was a gruesome day which reflected the low regard for the sanctity of life in the country.

Nigeria was figuratively, symbolically and literally soaked in the blood of unarmed innocent youth who fought for their rights to move freely in the country without being harassed by the Nigerian Police Force.

After the shootings that occurred in the Lekki toll gate on that fateful date, there have been denials and shift-blaming on who gave the order for military men to go to the Lekki toll gate.

Fortunately, amidst the denials and counter-denials, several people were working undercover to uncover the real truth about what happened on the fateful day.

A CNN investigative report released earlier on November 18, 2020, is one of the fruits of the investigative search on what happened that day.

CNN released videos of relatives of the protesters shot on that day and other details about the shootings.

However, the most shocking of them all was that they were able to show the origin of the bullet that was used by the Nigerian army on that day.

Thanks to the live video done by Dj Switch, they were able to analyse some of the necessary elements needed to carry out an investigation.

Dj Switch has reportedly moved to Canada due to the threats she received for broadcasting the incident live.

An excerpt from the investigations and report by CNN reads, â€œCNN has examined bullet castings found at the scene and confirmed with current and former Nigeria military sources that the bullet castings match those used by the army.â€

They also confirmed that the bullet was manufactured in Serbia in 2005.

Their investigation revealed that Nigeria bought weaponry from Serbia for a long time.

They were also able to uncover that Nigeria bought weaponry almost every year between 2005 and 2016 from Serbia.

The investigation has challenged the narrative released by the Nigerian army and State officials that the army did not shoot at the peaceful protesters.
