Olamilekan Agbelesebioba, aka Laycon, is the winner of the recently concluded Big Brother Naija (Lockdown Edition). He tells TOFARATI IGE about the lessons he learnt in the house, the controversy surrounding the house and money he got from the Ogun State government among other issues

Now that youâ€™re out of the house, what is your next move?

Obviously, my music career comes first, then every other thing would follow. Also, I have always said my primary goal is to spread love and light, and affect peopleâ€™s lives positively. That is what I intend to do.

What should fans be expecting from you, music-wise?

I plan to release quality music and keep spreading love and light in every way possible. However, I would not put out any song that is not of good quality. I would take my time to release something nice for my fans. There is no rush. Right now, I have been recording in the studio, so people should be on the lookout for new content from me.

Some have said you intentionally portrayed yourself as vulnerable while in the house to attract sympathy from people. Was that your strategy?

I only went into the house to promote my music and I had to be myself to do that. Every other thing that happened just occurred that way naturally. I knew that people would see the kind of person I am through my music if I was real. I really donâ€™t understand what people mean when they say I had a strategy. All I know is that I didnâ€™t go into the house with a strategy.

A lot has been said about you and Erica. Do you in any way feel responsible for her disqualification?

No, I donâ€™t. Everybody who watched the show knew how I felt about her and I reiterated it while I was in the house. However, right now, my focus is on my music and promoting myself.

While in the house, did you have any idea of the huge followership you had amassed on social media and on the streets?

I had no clue.

A lady recently claimed that you impregnated her. Though she has later come out to say it is false, how prepared are you for things like that since they would likely happen more now that you are a celebrity?

I am prepared mentally for important things. Anything that is not important to the purpose of having this platform and changing peopleâ€™s lives would not get my attention. I see any other thing as a distraction. My aim right now is to give back to people positively.

Some people have criticised the Ogun State government for giving you N5m, a house and making you a youth ambassador. What do you have to say to such people?

Consequent upon the outlawing of stamp duty on electronic bank transfer by the Court of Appeal, the Federal Government, through the Finance Act 2020, has introduced the Electronic Money Transfer Levy.

Finance Act 2020, which was recently signed by President Muhammadu Buhari, has a commencement date of January 1, 2021 along with the 2021 Appropriation Act.

The new law stipulates payment of N50 levy on every electronic money transfer deposited in any bank or financial institution on any account on the sum of N10,000 or more.

Like Value-Added Tax (VAT), states will benefit more from the accruing revenue at a ratio of 85 per cent, while the Federal Government and Abuja will share the remaining 15 per cent.

The Act also reduces import duty on tractors from 35 to five per cent; mass transit vehicles for transport of more than 10 persons and trucks from 35 per cent to 10 per cent; and reduction of import levy on cars from 30 per cent to five per cent.

This development, according to experts, is to redirect traffic of these vehicles from other ports in West Africa to Nigeria.

Finance Act 2020 made the cost of donation made in cash or kind to any fund set up by the government in respect of any pandemic or natural disaster to be tax deductible subject to a maximum of 10 per cent of assessable profit after other allowable donations.

Overall, the act introduced over 80 amendments to 14 different laws.

Overall, the new law removed some tax burden on individual and small businesses while redefining others.

For instance, workers earning N30,000 minimum wage or less have been exempted from personal income tax, while commercial airline tickets will no longer attract VAT.

The Act states provides that:-

â€œCompensation for loss of office up to N10m exempted from capital gains tax. Tax due on excess above N10m is to be deducted by the payer and remitted within the time specified under the PAYE Regulations.

â€œMinimum tax for companies in respect of returns for years of assessments due between 1st Jan, 2020 and 31st Dec, 2021 has been reduced from 0.5% to 0.25% of gross turnover less frank ofed investment income.â€
