Judge Egwuatu Travels Abroad As Igboho’s Aides Meet All Bail Conditions
~1.0 mins read
Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has travelled out of the country as the 12 detained aides of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, met all their bail conditions.
The detainees’ lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, told The PUNCH on Tuesday that Justice Egwuatu was supposed to sign the release warrant of his clients today but the bail office of the court informed him that the presiding judge travelled out of the country on short notice.
The court had asked each of the 12 detainees to get two sureties each, making it a total of 24 sureties. The detainees had secured the sureties last week but the bail office of the court said it needed to write letters to the offices of the 24 sureties to get more confirmation.
Olajengbesi said the confirmation of the sureties had been completed, adding that he was at the bail office of the court on Tuesday waiting for the judge to sign the release order of his clients but he was told that Justice Egwuatu had travelled out.
“We have met all the bail conditions and the deputy registrar at the bail office has signed a memo to that effect. However, I was told by the bail office that the judge that will sign their release order has travelled out urgently for a seminar and will not return till next week,†the detainees’ lawyer told our correspondent.

CBN To Arrest Anyone Who Sprays, Steps On Naira Notes
~1.0 mins read
The Central Bank of Nigeria has threatened to arrest and prosecute anyone who abuses the Nigerian Naira in Public.
The CBN issued a stern warning on Monday against spraying or stepping on the nation's currency at public events.
The statement, signed by the Ag. Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Osita Nwanisobi, read: "The attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has again been drawn to the activities of persons, who flagrantly abuse the legal tender by hurling wads of Naira notes in the air and stamping on the currency at social functions."
"There have also been cases where people mishandle the Naira, deface it, hawk the currency at parties and reject the currency in some instances. It should be stated that, contrary to the practice of these unpatriotic persons, it is neither cultural nor moral, for people to disrespect the currency which citizens trade in."
"For the avoidance of doubt, Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007 (As amended) stipulates that “spraying of, dancing or matching on the Naira or any note issued by the Bank during social occasions or otherwise howsoever shall constitute an abuse and defacing of the Naira or such note and shall be punishable under the law by fines or imprisonment or both."
"Accordingly, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is collaborating with the Nigeria Police, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) to address the unpatriotic practice."

Wike: PDP Can’t Win 2023 Presidency With Secondus-Led NWC In Charge
~0.7 mins read
Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says the present National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, cannot lead the party to victory in the 2023 general elections, hence the quest for its replacement.
The governor has maintained that the internal rumbling that was recently witnessed in the party was following the failure of the NWC to carry out its responsibility as an opposition political party effectively.
Speaking on national television in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Governor Wike stated that the PDP remains the only credible alternative party that Nigerians are expecting to take over power in 2023, given the woeful performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
“If you go to the public and ask Nigerians if PDP is ready to take over power in 2023, if you take referendum, you will know that Nigerians are even waiting for PDP. But the fear of Nigerians is whether PDP is ready to take overpower. So, people are concerned about it. Obviously, it is ripe for PDP to take over, but you must be prepared to take over.

THE boss of a Formula 1 circuit has been shot dead - reportedly by her husband who found her in bed with her mistress.
Nathalie Maillet, 51, the CEO of the Spa-Francorchamps F1 circuit, was found dead at her home in Gouvy, Belgium on Sunday.
Cops say that Nathalie was at home with her alleged mistress Ann Lawrence Durviaux, 53, when her husband Franz Dubois confronted the pair who were in the bedroom.

Prince Uche Secondus, National Chairman of the Peoples DemocratÂic Party (PDP), and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) have voluntarily agreed not to seek reelection in the forthcomÂing national convention of the parÂty scheduled to hold in October, this year.
This was exclusively revealed to Daily Independent by Chief RayÂmond Dokpesi, a chieftain of the party and former national chairÂmanship aspirant, in Abuja at the weekend.

During the stakeholders’ meeting held last week to reÂsolve the imbroglio, the govÂernors, party elders and othÂer stakeholders agreed that Secondus should be allowed to complete his tenure since he has just four months to go.
As part of the peace deal struck to resolve the crisis, it was also agreed that the conÂvention which was earlier scheduled to hold in DecemÂber be brought forward to October.
