Salah Makes Liverpool History With 100th Premier League Goal
~1.7 mins read

The striker put his side 2-1 ahead in the second half to overtake Roger Hunt as the quickest Red to make his century

Mohamed Salah became the fastest Liverpool player ever to reach 100 league goals on Saturday as he temporarily put his side ahead against Brentford in an eventual 3-3 draw.

The Egypt international has become a firm favourite at Anfield since arriving at the club from Roma in 2017, and he came through once more to help his side out of a tight situation, with a spot at the top of the Premier League on the line.

However, newly promoted Brentford spoiled the landmark finish with an 82-minute goal from Yoane Wissa to level the score.

Salah went into Saturday's game with the chance to reclaim his position at the top of the Premier League scoring charts, after being overtaken earlier in the day by Jamie Vardy and Michail Antonio.

His goal finally arrived in the 54th minute, after Diogo Jota had earlier cancelled out an early strike from the hosts by way of Ethan Pinnock.

It brought him up to five for the season in the league so far, and also secured him a piece of Liverpool history.

His century arrived in just 151 games, quicker than any other Reds player.

Club legend Roger Hunt was the previous record-holder, having made 100 in 152 appearances, while fellow sharp-shooter Ian Rush needed 168 outings to reach the mark.

He is also only one of four Liverpool players to have netted 100 times in the Premier League, alongside Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Steven Gerrard, and also entered the club's list of top 10 all-time scorers with this latest strike.

Kepa Told To Have Drop To 3rd Keeper After Southampton Nightmare.
~1.1 mins read
Chelsea stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga has been told he is now the third-choice stopper at Stamford Bridge.
The Spaniard has lost his place in between the sticks in recent weeks, being replaced by summer signing Edouard Mendy after a host of errors last season.
But could Arrizabalaga even fall behind veteran goalkeeper Willy Caballero in the pecking order as the club look to offload him?
Pundit Tony Cascarino believes the player's latest mistake against Southampton on Saturday could see Blues boss Frank Lampard demote the stopper even further.
“He’s gone from number one to number two goalkeeper, and after [the Southampton] performance he’s probably number three now," he told talkSPORT.
â€œHe won’t even make the bench now as [Willy] Caballero will be number two.
“I’m a bit surprised [Lampard] chose to play Kepa; he doesn’t fancy Kepa and it’s obvious.
“Caballero has done very little wrong, but because they’ve paid such a high fee for a player they need to justify playing him to give him an opportunity to perform.”
Lampard may have dropped Arrizabalaga for £22m man Mendy following his arrival from Rennes.
But the Chelsea boss has backed the under-fire shot-stopper in public on several occasions.
And following Saturday's mistake, which saw Southampton score after Kepa failed to clear a Kurt Zouma backpass, Lampard again refused to condemn the £71m signing.
â€œI haven’t seen it back again, I just saw it in real time," Lampard said when asked about the goal.
“The back pass is short.

‘Consistent’ Fernandes Backed To Replace Maguire As Man Utd’s Permanent Captain By Meulensteen
~1.1 mins read
The former Old Trafford coach has heaped praise upon the midfielder for the impact he’s had since joining the club from Sporting CP
Bruno Fernandes has been backed to replace Harry Maguire as Manchester United ’s permanent captain by Rene Meulensteen.
Fernandes has established himself as a talismanic figure at Old Trafford since his €55 million (£50m/$65m) move from
Sporting CP in the last January transfer window.
The Portuguese has contributed 15 goals and 11 assists in his first 27 outings for United, adding a much-needed creative spark to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side while leading by example in the middle of the pitch.

The Red Devils have become a far more potent side going forward with the 26-year-old pulling the strings, and his inspirational presence has also been able to bring the best out stars who had previously been struggling for form in Manchester.
Fernandes is set to inherit the captain’s armband for the first time in a Champions League clash away at Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, with Maguire nursing a slight knock after a 4-1 win at Newcastle at the weekend.
Meulensteen, who served as Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant between 2007 and 2013, believes the ex-Sporting star is the ideal man to take up leadership duties having seen him raise the collective “standards” within the squad over the past 10 months.
“Bruno is an excellent choice because Since he’s come to the club, he has given United what they were lacking,” the former United coach told talkSPORT.

Chelsea Morning Headlines As Kepa Fires Mendy Warning And Lampard’s Future Transfer Plans
~1.1 mins read

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga believes he can still turn around his fortunes at Stamford Bridge despite the arrival of Edouard Mendy in the summer transfer window.

Kepa has made a number of high profile mistakes over the course of his Blues career and has been dropped from Frank Lampard’s team following the signing of Mendy from Rennes, but the Spaniard has issued a warning that he will continue to fight for his place.

“I’m confident I can turn it around and do my best when I play,” he said on Tuesday (as per the Express). “We all want to play. But I don’t think about anything beyond the day-to-day life and focusing on the national team’s matches. We have three matches and my focus is on them.

“In the life of a footballer there are ups and downs, but in the end what is in my hands is to work. I have demonstrated the level that I have, I trust the level that I have and I will continue to demonstrate it; this is the moment to trust yourself.

Zidane, Henry... Giroud? Much-maligned Striker Deserves To Be Considered France Legend
~1.1 mins read
The Chelsea striker is ready to join an elite band of players who have earned 100 caps for Les Bleus - and he thoroughly merits his place among them
International friendlies are not renowned for being unforgettable affairs but when France tackle Ukraine on Wednesday at Stade de France, it will be a night to remember for Olivier Giroud.
The Chelsea striker, who is one goal shy of matching Michel Platini’s tally of 41 for his country, will join an elite cast of seven of his compatriots to win 100 caps for Les Bleus.
With Paris on a heightened state of alert because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the visiting side chronically depleted due to a raft of coronavirus-related call-offs, only a handful will be present in the stadium to see Giroud's big moment – an unfitting setting for a player who has worked so relentlessly hard for the national team in a near-decade long international career.

“It will be a special match because we will play Ukraine at Stade de France, because I would like to equal Michel Platini as quickly as possible and because it will be my 100th selection,” he told the press on Tuesday.
“I never set a limit in my career, but when I had 75 or 80 caps, I said to myself: ‘Why not reach 100?’
“One hundred is a good number, but I still have some strong years ahead of me. People appreciate things better at my age, even though I’m not 39 either.
“I realise how lucky I’m to become.”

Coutinho Out To ‘achieve Big Things’ At Barcelona After Coming Back In From The Cold
~2.4 mins read
The Brazilian playmaker, who spent last season on loan at German giants Bayern Munich, was among the goals again in a meeting with Sevilla.

Philippe Coutinho is determined to “achieve big things” at Barcelonaafter being offered a clean slate at Camp Nou.

The Brazil international appeared destined to be heading for a future away from Catalunya after being sent out on loan to Bayern Munichin 2019-20.

Having failed to find a spark on the back of a big-money move from Liverpool, the South American playmaker slipped out of sight and mind.

Various landing spots were mooted for him, with Bayern opting against seeking a permanent deal of their own, and the current transfer window was expected to see another agreement pushed through.

Barca were, however, to find themselves backed into a corner that required big decisions to be made on their part.

Ronald Koeman was drafted in as the club’s new coach, and the Dutchman has brought outcasts back in from the cold while making bold calls to part with established stars such as Luis Suarez.

Fresh starts have worked in Coutinho’s favour, with the 28-year-old making the most of his second chance to catch the eye in pre-season and open the 2020-21 campaign with a goal and two assists through three appearances.

Confidence has returned to his game, with the Brazilian telling reporters after finding the target in a 1-1 draw with Sevilla: “I've got a lot of hunger to work and achieve big things.

“It was a tough and difficult game [but] we knew that already. It ended up being like that.

“We've got a point and now we're going into the international break. When we return, it's about continuing to work.”

Barcelona dropped points for the first time this season when being held by Sevilla, but they have offered cause for optimism through their early outings and Coutinho is confident that they can kick on when returning to action on October 18 against Getafe.

Who Will Win The Premier League In 2020-21? The Favourites, Outsiders, Underdogs & Latest Odds
~5.4 mins read
Liverpool won their first top-flight title in 30 years last season but Manchester City are hoping to make it three crowns in the last four campaigns.
It looks set to be another exciting Premier League season as Liverpoollook to retain the maiden title they claimed in June.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds were virtually unstoppable to that point, winning 28 of their 31 matches when their first league crown for 30 years was confirmed.

Manchester City, though, will be out to make it three Premier League titles in four seasons after finishing 18 points off the pace last term but still 15 above third place.

WHO ARE THE FAVORITE TO WIN THE PREMIER LEAGUE?

Liverpool are 5/4 (2.25) to follow up their first ever Premier League title by making it two in a row to cement their status as one of the best teams in the world.

Klopp’s side broke a host of records last term, including the fewest amount of matches taken to win the title, and while the Anfield faithful are unlikely to expect a repeat performance, they will still be expecting their team to be in the running in May.

The Reds added Kostas Tsimikas, Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota to their ranks in a busy transfer window, but their strong start was ended after a humiliating 7-2 defeat at Aston Villa in October.

Manchester City are 6/4 (2.50) to reclaim the title after somewhat of a down year by their lofty standards last time.

Fresh off winning the domestic treble, Pep Guardiola’s men could only finish with 81 points – some way short of the 198 they had amassed across the previous two campaigns.

The ability and the depth of their squad cannot be matched, even by the reigning champions, and it is little surprise they are amongst the favourites to lift the title for the fifth time in 10 seasons.

WHO ARE THE UNDERDOG TO WIN THE PREMIER LEAGUE?

Chelsea have been incredibly active in the transfer market by bringing in a host of starting players, including Ben Chilwell, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, and bet365 make them 14/1 (15.0) to win the league.

Frank Lampard impressed in his debut season as Blues manager but the former midfielder is yet to address the inconsistency issues that plagued his team last season, starting with two wins from four games.

Everton finished 12th last season but have made an exceptional start to the 2020-21 season and are 20/1 (21.0) to win a first league title since 1987.

Marquee signing James Rodriguez has not disappointed since joining from Real Madrid, linking up with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with the tutelage of Carlo Ancelotti having also played a significant part in the Toffees' excellent form.

Tottenham are 20/1 (21.0) to improve upon their sixth-place finish last season and win a first top-flight title since 1961.

Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino in November last term and his tally of 45 points was the fourth-most accrued since his hiring, and the Portuguese led Spurs to a 6-1 victory at Old Trafford in October to solidify themselves as potential champions.

Arsenal enjoyed a strong end to the 2019-20 campaign with 16 points from their final nine games and are 25/1 (26.0) outsiders to win a first Premier League title in 17 years.

WHO ARE THE OUTSIDERS TO WIN THE PREMIER LEAGUE?

Manchester United have not win the title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in 2013 and they are 50/1 (51.0) to wrestle back the Premier League crown.

It was a season of two halves last time around for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the signing of Bruno Fernandes revitalising the Red Devils, but this season has started abysmally with two losses from three games including the chagrin of a 6-1 home defeat to Spurs.

Leicester City were the surprise package of last season and are 50/1 (41.0) to go even further this season by winning a second Premier League title.

The Foxes were second at the halfway stage last time around only to completely implode in 2020, but this season has also seen them start strongly with a 5-2 win at Manchester City the undoubted highlight.

There is 100/1 (151.0) available on newly-promoted Leeds United, with the bookies expecting big things from Marcelo Bielsa’s side on their return to the promised land after 16 years away.

The West Yorkshire side have won over plenty of doubters with seven points from their opening four games and their exciting brand of football has made them one of the highest scoring teams in the league.

Liverpool Still The Team To Beat Despite Aston Villa Mauling’ – Owen Feels Reds Should Remain ‘buoyant’ After 7-2 Defeat
~1.2 mins read
The former frontman believes Jurgen Klopp’s side will shake a stunning reversal from their system and come back stronger after the international break.
Liverpool remain “the team to beat in the Premier League” despite theirhumbling 7-2 defeat at Aston Villa, says Michael Owen.

The defending champions were put to the sword in spectacular styleduring their most recent outing.

Alarming defensive flaws were exposed by a buoyant Villa side, with the likes of Ollie Watkins, Ross Barkley and Jack Grealish running riot.

It is not the first time this season that Jurgen Klopp’s side have looked vulnerable in defence, with questions being asked of a system that favours a risky high line approach.

Tweaks may be made on the back of a remarkable reversal in the West Midlands that saw Liverpool swept aside by a team that only just scraped clear of the relegation zone in 2019-20.

Klopp has shown in the past that he is capable of fixing any supposed faults in his ranks, with his Reds side becoming a dominant force as a result.
