Nigerians keep showing that the country is blessed with amazing human resources. A team of engineers led by Alex Ephraim Akwiwu has produced a car called IYI Celebrity, with locally-sourced materials. The company, Ephraim and Jeoana Akwiwu Auto Shop, launched the car in Owerri, the capital of Imo state, Auto Josh reports.
It should be noted that Alex was trained in Europe as an automobile engineer. He is also the CEO of the company that built the IYI Celebrity.
According to the same media, the CEO said that the plan to go into local production of vehicles began in 2011, an idea which was later made possible with the application of advanced technology in motor production and maintenance. In 2016, the company produced its first vehicle named IYI Combatant with a new version of the car released a year after in 2017.
When commenting on the new version of the vehicle, Engineer Alex said: “This is a friendlier version than the “Combatant†which was produced in 2017. “Furthermore, its aggressive aesthetic and exhaust was made in consideration of the kind of road or terrain it was meant to ply on.†The engine and transmission of the new vehicle are reportedly at the rear side and it is powered by 1.8 litre engine with economical fuel consumption and low C02 emission.

Meanwhile, a former senator from Kogi, Dino Melaye, has vehemently decried the federal government's order for the increase of petrol price to N151.56 per litre which has already taken effect in some states. On his Twitter page, Melaye described the move as wicked and insensitive and went on to say that at a time like this, the decision will affect Nigerians negatively.
The government's position has fuelled a lot of backlash from prominent Nigerians like Melaye and even political groups such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which the former outspoken lawmaker belongs to. In another report, a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has rejected the recent hike in electricity tariffs. This is contained in a statement he posted on Twitter on Thursday, September 3. According to Atiku who was also the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last presidential election, what Nigerians need is stimulus and not disregard for their challenges. He argued that many Nigerians have not earned income for months due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Labour unions in the country have vowed to resist the recent increase in the price of petrol. Ayuba Wabba, the president of NLC on Thursday, September 3, said both labour unions would soon deliberate on how to carry out the planned industrial action. FG Abondons National Identity Card, Reveals New Means Of Identification.

The Nigerian government has disclosed that the current plastic national identity card will be replaced with a digital means of identification.
Rauf Aregbesola, the minister of interior on Thursday, August 13, made the disclosure to the press after the committee on citizen data management and harmonisation held a meeting with the president, Daily Trust reported.

The minister, who also chairs the committee, said that the card is no more the focus, adding that the important thing is the National Identity Number (NIN).
He said the digital process will be domiciled in the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
Similarly, the minister of communications and digital economy, Ali Pantami who was at the press briefing, stated that the world had gone digital and stopped focusing on the production of cards.
“What the chairman is saying now is that we are no more talking about cards, the world has gone digital. So, that card is no more," he said.
“Our priority now is digital ID, it will be attached to your database wherever you are.
Pantami explained that the government was now focused on the digital ID and not on the card.
"Now, our focus is no longer on producing cards, that card is only for record but what is important is that the digital ID and if you notice we have started using the digital ID on the international passport.
“Once you have the digital ID, but not the card, we are 100 percent done with you,†the minister said.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, August 13, assured Nigerians that the issues with the United States will be addressed.
The Nigerian leader was said to have given the assurance when the committee on citizen data management and harmonisation chaired by the minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola paid him a visit in Abuja, The Nation reported.
