THE MISSED CHANCE Part 2
~2.2 mins read
The brown content stained both my shirt and singlet and I was dripping wet. She hissed and went inside, I was dumbfounded and angry, why is all this happening to me? I got up and changed as fast as possible, it was now 8:05, I wore a blue shirt and black trouser, rushing out of the house in anger, I spotted a cab and quickly I hopped in. when we got half way, the cab had a flat tyre, I came out to get a bike but it was a bit difficult, it was like they had all gone on break. I was confused and frustrated, I didn’t know what else to do, by now it was already 8:15.
Finally, the driver was done fixing his flat tyre, I got in and prayed the interview is not yet over. I arrived at the organization at about 8:30, I was directed to the hall of the interview. On getting there I saw Mr. Felix shaking hands with a man, his face was familiar and I recognized him to be one of the persons who was asked to come today for the interview, the other two persons also gave him a hand shake saying “congratulation”. My heart began to race, my hands were sweaty, I walked towards Mr. Felix and greeted him, he looked at me and shook his head.
“Where were you? Your name was called first, I told you to be here early, we don’t condone late coming here, we started at 8:00 on the dot and your name was called repeatedly, this is serious business Mr. Kolawole or do you think we are joking here?”
“I’m very sorry sir, I had some issues I needed to settle”
“Well you are too late, Mr. Adejoh got the job, I’m sorry, there was nothing I could do, you were not even present, you blew your chance, you missed it”
Those words hit me like a bomb, I rested on the pillar for support as he walked past me, I tried to hold back my tears as I walked out of the hall with my file in hand, I felt like my world was going to end, I had a job on a platter and it went just like that, that job could have been mine, I’m supposed to be rejoicing and put my wife to shame and not here mourning my lost job.
The sound of my alarm brought me back to the present and I struggled to find my phone in the darkness of the room.
“Put off that thing abeg, it’s disturbing me” Christy said annoyed by the sound of the alarm. I managed to find it and I got up after putting off the alarm. I had my bath and was getting dressed when she spoke again.
“Where are you off to this early morning?”
“It is none of your business”
The event that just played in my head made me angry, I ignored the rest of her words before she went back to sleep. I took my file and left the house with the expectation that this time I would get the job.

OCTOBER 1st Part 2
~1.6 mins read
“Leave the way!” a man shouted at me and I broke out of my trance.
“Where are your parents? Are you lost?” He asked buy I couldn’t answer, because that question triggered something in me. I pushed the door with all the strength I had and ran out of the eatery, I caught the sight of a trailer on top what looks like my dad’s car, I ran to the car ignoring the voices of people telling me not to go near the scene. Then I saw them on the floor in a pool of blood, I froze at the sight before me as I let go of the ice cream I had been holding onto, it fell to the ground and rolled under the damaged car. I was hyperventilating and couldn’t comprehend what was happening, I caught a sight of mum’s finger shaking lightly, she was alive, thank God, I had thought. I bent down and cupped the side of her face with my little hands as she always does to me, she opened her eye and looked at me, a drop of rain fell on her bloody face then another, then another.
“Mum, don’t worry you’ll be fine I promise” I said to her with a trembling voice.
“Stop crying my baby” she whispered and I realized I was actually the one crying.
“Be a good girl” she whispered again and closed her eyes. I was shaking on the floor as I moved from my mum to my dad calling them both but the reply a got was the sound of an ambulance from a distance. With tears in my eyes I looked up to see some people lamenting about the bad roads, the street lights that were not working and the traffic lights that were not functioning while some others were taking the picture of a crying girl in front of her dead parent. A knock on my door ended my flash back, I wiped my tears and walked to the door to open it, I met Steve wearing a smile which turned into a frown.
“You are not dressed yet? It’s almost 7. Wait, what happened to you? Have you been crying? What’s wrong” he asked but I broke down in front of him.
