The Council disclosed the allegations in Yola weekend during an emergency meeting with all its executives from the 21 local government areas in the state alleging that an intelligence report at its disposal has revealed that Muslims are being blocked to cast their votes or register during elections in some local governments in the State.

 

Chairman of the Council, Gambo Jika decried that some of these communities where their members are in the minority are allegedly subjected to all manner of intimidation and harassment to the extent of sending them to their homes denying them their civil rights.

The Lagos state Governor,  Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the total ban of the activities of motor tricycles popularly known as OKADA in six local Government areas of the state.

The Governor made this known while speaking with all Divisional Police Officers and Areas Commanders across the state at the Lagos house, Ikeja.

The Governor said no any motorcyclists would be allowed in the following six local Governments of the state, which include: Ikeja, Eti-osa, Lagos mainland, surulere, Lagos island, and Apapa local councils with effect from 1st of June, 2022.

Meanwhile, the tweet from by Punch Newspaper confirming the ban has attracted thousands of reactions by Nigerians as some supported the decision of the Government while others believe the ban will give rise to increase of criminal activities in the state. Some comments read as: 

#  I think we need the total ban of OKADA in Lagos State, some states have done it so it's nothing new. These riders have taken laws into their hands, killing people over minor arguments, no sane Government will allow such things, so kudos to his Excellency Sanwo-Olu.

#If you want the whole of Lagos to be safe, then there should be an outright ban on the operation of all OKADA riders. That is one way to work towards the attainment of a mega city status for Lagos.
