These rumors are like moon light tales and as well not true. The truth of the matter is that in the early era after Nigeria was given independence, there was a need for our own indigenous lawyers. There was no institution to train lawyers, therefore our lawyers were trained abroad, especially in Britain. 

As at then, most of our lawyers who studied abroad were exposed to secret association which they joined. Some of those secret association had the burial ritual of turning the corpse of their members upside down before burial. This goes to explain that, the said burial ritual is a practice of a secret society and not of the legal profession. It will be wrong to generalize the practice to all lawyers. 

Fortunately enough, Nigeria now has her own institution for the training of lawyers and exposure to this secret society has greatly reduced. The archaic ritual is now a thing of the past.
