Ayodele Akande, also known as AY Nigeria is a Nigerian On-Air Personality (OAP), Event Host, Orator, Author, and the project Initiator of AY Nigeria Goes to School.
Recently, the self-confessed Feminist, Activist, Pan Africanist, and Diplomat by training spoke exclusively with News Rain Nigeria about his aims of raising a Gender Balanced and Rape Free Generation. Enjoy.
What Inspires Your Initiatives?
My desire to see a better generation, a generation of men and women who are gender balance and rape free, a generation where our differences are appreciated. Also, a generation where mutual respect is common.
Running an NGO, with an interest in Gender-Based Violence and being an OAP, how convenient has it been for you?
Not totally convenient, I must say, but the Radio Schedule is very flexible, so I can plan my movement and the radio platform I have is largely used for advocacy against Gender-Based Violence too. So, I don’t feel the inconvenience that much.

Is gender inequality an issue in Nigeria?
Yes!
It’s a big deal in Nigeria.
How? Why?
We are a largely patriarchal society where men are revered more than women.
Even for leadership positions, the men dominate and these reflect largely in Gender abuses against women, from physical assault and in most cases rape, because they are mostly considered as tools of procreation and pleasure. But gradually, we are changing the narrative.
What are your efforts in this regard?
We visit secondary schools in a Ekiti State with a team of Public Speakers and Counselors, enlighten them about SDG Goal 5 which is Gender Equality, talk to them about Rape and other forms of Abuse, take data Of recorded cases and supply them psycho-social support and counseling.
So far, we’ve visited 33 schools in Ekiti State
As an OAP, what Dictates Your Idea?
A hunger for a new Nigeria.
As my name implies, I’m always speaking and encouraging Nigerians about Nigeria.
Are Nigerians still listening to Radio?
Sure.
Many people in rural areas live largely on Radio.
Radio is the master of TV, it’s like a companion for many even in Urban areas, so, yes, people still do.
With social media, what is the future of broadcasting?
Evolution.
As an OAP, social media helps me connect with my fans from all over the world as though they are watching TV.
It’s an all-new world Of broadcasting that is dawning upon us, and we must be ready to exploit it for our gains too.
What Inspires Your Fashion Sense?
I source my fashion sense from a rich African tradition of patterns and prints with a blend of Unique designs
How Do You Dress On A Good Day?
I love dressing casual, free but sophisticated.

Until Pastor Yemi Osinbajo Is Suspended, I Am Never Stepping Foot Into Any Redeem Christian Church Of God - Nigerian Man Says

A Nigerian accountant, Obinna Nwosu, has vowed never to enter any parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God RCCG, if Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, is not suspended from the church.
He said this following the shooting of Lekki #EndSARS protesters today October 20. Osinbajo is a pastor of the RCCG.
