Team Of Nigerian Engineers Construct A Locally Made Car Called IYI Celebrity

Nigerians keep showing that the country is blessed with amazing human resources. A team of engineers led by Alex Ephraim Akwiwu has produced a car called IYI Celebrity, with locally-sourced materials. The company, Ephraim and Jeoana Akwiwu Auto Shop, launched the car in Owerri, the capital of Imo state, Auto Josh reports.
It should be noted that Alex was trained in Europe as an automobile engineer. He is also the CEO of the company that built the IYI Celebrity.
According to the same media, the CEO said that the plan to go into local production of vehicles began in 2011, an idea which was later made possible with the application of advanced technology in motor production and maintenance. In 2016, the company produced its first vehicle named IYI Combatant with a new version of the car released a year after in 2017.
When commenting on the new version of the vehicle, Engineer Alex said: “This is a friendlier version than the “Combatant†which was produced in 2017. “Furthermore, its aggressive aesthetic and exhaust was made in consideration of the kind of road or terrain it was meant to ply on.†The engine and transmission of the new vehicle are reportedly at the rear side and it is powered by 1.8 litre engine with economical fuel consumption and low C02 emission.

Labour Unions In The Country Are Planning To Go On Strike Over The Recent Increase In Price Of Petrol

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) are reportedly consulting civil society allies and relevant organs of labour towards the planned strike, The Guardian reported. Labour unions in the country have vowed to resist the recent increase in the price of petrol. Ayuba Wabba, the president of NLC on Thursday, September 3, said both labour unions would soon deliberate on how to carry out the planned industrial action. He described the petrol price hike as an insensitive action on the part of the federal government, vowing that the labour unions wound resist the tariff increase.
The TUC president, Quadri Olaleye in a statement also confirmed that the labour unions were planning on a strike. He said it was wicked for the government to increase petroleum prices and electricity bills at the same time. Meanwhile, the federal government's increase in petrol price and the recent hike in electricity tariff have angered a lot of Nigerians. Groups, politicians and even local experts in the field of economics have decried the federal government's decision which has been described as both unfortunate and insensitive, Vanguard reported.
