Apps, Music, TV, Fitness & More: Apple Celebrates Its 2020 Highlights
Apple had a good 2020 by all accounts, and the company recently took a moment to highlight the various apps and services that stood out.
Apple celebrated the resounding success of its 2020 by crediting the many apps and developers that helped shape its growing ecosystem. The company also lauded the progress and evolution of its own services, which led to big gains in both profits and user activity. This is in spite of Apple's iPhone sales going through a bit of a slump last year and falling behind the competition, albeit only slightly.
In terms of the company's digital offerings, the number of lockdowns certainly had a positive impact on the App Store's revenue, with the tech giant reporting over a $100 billion in earnings from digital goods in the past year. It was only last month when Apple revealed its
App Store top picks for 2020 and even since then, the company has seen increased user activity to help it close out the year in style.
In a
blog post, Apple revealed that App Store users spent a whopping $1.8 billion on digital sales between Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and a record-breaking $540 million on New Year's Day alone. The company touted the growth of its numerous services, such as Apple Arcade and Apple Pay, as well as its newer
Apple Fitness+ service. Apple TV+ original programs reportedly reached record viewership in 2020 while new Apple Music features -- including Listen Now, personal radio stations, and Autoplay -- were reportedly utilized by 90-percent of all iOS 14 listeners. Furthermore, Apple Books saw “
double-digit increases†in new customers last year, amounting to over 90 million active users.
Other App Store highlights included the video-conferencing app Zoom and streaming service Disney+ being regarded as last year's most downloaded apps, while action Role Playing Game
Genshin Impact apparently had the most successful App Store launch week ever. Apple also praised apps like Wakeout!, ShareTheMeal and FaceTime for serving as inspirations to its thriving user community.

IPhone 13 Release Date: When To Expect Apple's 2021 IPhone
Last year, Apple had to delay the launch of the iPhone 12 and split the release of its models, but this year it is likely to be better prepared.
A new year means a new iPhone from Apple. The most recent version, the iPhone 12, brought a revamped design with squared-off edges when it was launched towards the end of 2020. Like the iPhone 12, the iPhone 13 can be expected to come in four models — the iPhone mini, iPhone, iPhone Pro, and iPhone Pro Max — with many also predicting that it will have a smaller notch and adopt a 120Hz display refresh rate for the Pro models, although those rumors have circulated for the past couple of generations. The question is, when can we expect to see it?
In recent times, Apple has released its new iPhone models in September, but last year it had to contend with the COVID-19 pandemic, which
disrupted its supply chain. As a result, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro were ultimately released in October 2020, while the release of iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max was delayed to November 2020. Whether Apple will revert to a September release for the iPhone 13 remains to be seen, but it will surely want to return to releasing all of its models at the same time.
