Do You Remember The 100 Naira In Money Heist? This Is What You Didn't Know.
~2.7 mins read
While I was watching Money Heist (La Casa De Papel), Netflix's most watched foreign film, a Nigerian 100 naira note came to my sight, and I was like kind of amazed by seeing how a graphic display of the Nigerian Currency was featured in that kind of smash hit series.
But I know that the 100 naira note won't just get there by chance because anything that appeared on the screen was preplanned by the filmmakers. So why would they use a Nigerian currency, and what are they trying to display?
Out of the 180 legally recognized currencies in the whole world, the Nigerian currency was chosen to appear in the serial's intro and trust me, I am still doubting if it's something to be really proud of or not.
Concerning this issue, there are just two considerable points.
Firstly, the Nigerian currency was displayed just to show the intensity of robberies and corruption, money laundering and stealing from both citizens and leaders in the country. But still, Nigeria isn't ranked the No.1 country in corruption. So why would they use our currency?
The second part was because the N100 was World's First Digital Banknote. So, some believed that 100 naira note was there because it was the first banknote in the world to come with a QR code.
After many people take notice of the currency, there had been many takes on the issue as It showcases both Positive and Negative thinkers. But whatever the intention of the filmmakers was, it had to be a positive or a negative one.
What do you have to say? Do you think it was proper for the 100 naira note to be included in this context? Was this Spain’s way of showing that they are tired of the negative behaviours of some Nigerians? An Honour or A Disgrace?
