Aboriginals: The 1st Known Inhabitants Of Australia With Respected Customs
~1.6 mins read
The Aboriginals are said to have been the first inhabitants of Australia before modernity came. Though reports on how long they have been there for are scanty, some said it has been for over 40,000 years.
Theafricanhistory.com reports that the aboriginals are the first people on the Australian continent and all its surrounding islands and presently make up 2.5% population of Australia.
It should, however, be noted that the word “aboriginal†also applies to people in Tasmania and other nearby places.

There are, however, contention on the use of "Aboriginal Australians" or "Aboriginal people" to describe the earliest inhabitants. The term "indigenous Australians" has gained wide acceptance because it does not bear any link to colonialism.

At the beginning of the 21st century, their languages were reduced to less than 200. A number that has drastically reduced in this present time.
The population of the Aboriginal people was sorely affected as diseases, land loss, and violence between 1788 and 1900 reduced it by 90%.
The people got the right to vote in Commonwealth elections in 1962. By the early 20th century, their population was not more than 90,000, making them really endangered. Their languages were grouped in the Pama-Nyungan languages and the non-Pama Nyungan.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the story of King Ibrahim Njoya, the ruler of Banmum, an ethnic group in Cameroon in the 17th century, goes to show that Africans were sophisticated in their ways before colonialism.
This was the man who developed African writing system which the colonial masters destroyed (photos)
The culture and customs of the ethnic group were preserved before the reign of the king via oral transmission.
Njoya brought about a special alphabet system that mixed both the Vai scripts with Arabic as a way to document the ways of his people.
It should be noted that his writing system was a pictogram before he worked more on it and came up with 70 distinct characters.
