Brilliant Lagos Student Who Had 8As In WAEC And Scored 352 In JAMB Awarded Scholarship In OAU

Recall that few months ago the JAMB council released the list of 10 best students in it's 2020 examination, where Simeon Akakabota, a student from St. Francis Catholic Secondary School, Idimu, Lagos, was named among those who had excellent score, after achieving a 352 score in his examination.
Consequently, owing to his brilliant academic performance, it has been revealed that the 17-year-old student who scored 352 and also had 8As in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result, has been awarded a-five-year scholarship to study at the Obafemi Awolowo University (O.A.U), by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
According to guardian, Rev. Fr. Muoneme who is the school administrator, said this at the 23th edition of the school graduation ceremony, which witnessed 128 students move up in their studies.
The cleric disclosed that the students’ performances in the 2020 JAMB was stunning, as the score of 104 students fall in the range of 250 to 352.
Speaking at the event, elated Simeon Akakabota, said he was able to achieve such great feat because he read and prayed to God for help, adding that he was always moved to read because of the gift the school administrator promised to give anyone that got 345 in JAMB.
“He promised to give a car; so, each time I am tired of reading, but remembers the promise I get strength to read more. I always imagine myself winning the car and driving it,†he said.
Akakabota disclosed that NSE gave each of the 10 best students a laptop, aside the scholarship. He advised junior students to never underestimate the powers of prayers and to always set goals for themselves.
In the same vein, it is worthy of note that the competition in the academic space at this age is now more high than ever before, consequently, there is absolute need for parents to ensure that their children are given quality education, in order to be able to compete with their peers favourably.
Moreover, parents can adopt motivation (reward) approach to help their children go extra-mile in their studies. Telling your child "if you clinch 1st position in your class, I will get you so and so item", will go a long way in motivating such child to put in more efforts because of the reward he'll get at the end of the day.
Besides, parents should not force their children to making a choice that is not in tandem with their passion and ability. For example, a look at the top 10 JAMB highest scorers, showed that none of them chosed Medicine & Surgery, Nursing, MLS etc as their preferred course. They all chose Engineering courses.
Additionally, students should endeavour to ask questions in class as it aids proper understanding. Besides, taking quality time out to read and digest what has been taught in the classroom is very important as well.
Before I forget, prayer is key !
May God grant our children wisdom and understanding.
