Olisa Agbakoba, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association and a human rights activist, has emphasized that Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), should be removed from his position due to a loss of trust. Agbakoba pointed out that INEC, under Yakubu's leadership, had failed in its duties. Despite Yakubu's assurances of addressing election irregularities through technology, Agbakoba expressed disappointment over the unfulfilled promises. He called for a wave of dismissals in Nigeria, including at INEC, and advocated for electoral reforms.

Olisa Agbakoba had said, "I repeat my call that the gale of sacks that is now on in Nigeria should be visited on INEC. There is no reason why the Prof who is head of INEC should be there; he has failed. We can't trust him."

During an interview on Channels Television, Agbakoba praised the Judiciary, the petitioners, and the respondent involved in the recently concluded petitions at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. However, he pointed out that it was clear that INEC had not fulfilled its duties. He mentioned that he had been a proponent of electoral reform and suggested that the Chairman of INEC should be removed from office.
