Men are forever deemed to be the stronger vessels and as such are expected to pass through whatever it takes to protect women the ones deemed weaker and also, children, in the case of a married man with kids.
Plenty pressure are on men, the universe is kind of more favourable to women than men. People would more easily help a woman in need, for a man, he would be asked to go and work. In fact, men are not even expected to beg, this has made plenty of them put hands several places all to see if they could make ends meet, keep food on the table for family and embrace financial stability.
