A Life Of Two Face
~3.9 mins read
chapter one
Odia, a man of considerable strength of character with admirable masculinity, was born in ovigor in the.okewe Delta Region.
He had.seen many days suggesting a better tomorrow. As a child, he would sit on the old mat near the.glowing log.inside the hut. While there, his grandmother would tell him Africa can folktale. Some of the.tales were mere stories.of the.bravery of some strong men men who could.hold their.head high.in the face of extreme danger, men who were noted for powerful.medicine that they.could change to leopard and other wild animal.and then back to.man again at will, men who were never defeated in war and who could.take.their rivals captive and win the love of beautiful women.effortlessly.

At time, the folktale could.just be the story.of immortal exploit of a heroine concerning how she delivered a whole.community from calamity through selfless and love.occasionally, it could just be story of a peaceful era, which was always attributed to the ruler ingenuity in the act of governance.even at that the story could end on a sad note of howsuch an erawas punctuated by clandestine interruption by over zealous neighboring kingas to bring calamity upon the people.this last one would usually  make odia exercise his infantile mind to the contrary of how the woy could not be as beautiful and as peaceful as he  was being tempted to believe by the simple natural environment in which he found himself . At too, he would be scare that some day, the likes of those heartless character in the forktale could manifest in his life time as to threatened his cherished peacy.
Sometime, odia would recall the.alluring beauty of the vegetation that surrounding his grand mother but, adorned.his beao footpath. The footpath linked his parents but to his grandmother hut.the interconntion between the hut were such that no one could.help it but admire the.gentle breezes coming in from different direction.
The serenity of.the compound.in general helped odia to enjoy the usual fellowship that existed between mother and child ather and father own mother and among everyone in the family.thetrees added their glamour so we're the beautiful flowers, the green leaves and the singing bird.
The blended beauty of nature in the austere community could be likened.to God own Paradise for man, until.that ugly serpent, the devil, deceived Adam may, live,to mislead his Lord,to fall a prey to a life of deprivation after eating the forbidden apple.from then on, man was to wrestle with natui e grab.his food, he's tree and scrape mud for his shelter and Chase animal to submission and defeat, if he was ever to provide meat for his nourishment.it did not end there, at time , he would have dirt, drink too wet his throat and coolhis chest, water the vegetation and cook.his food adjacent to odia father but was a beautiful garden with ridge having straight furrow in between them.although within the first quarter of the year, his father would commence work of clearing and tilling the garden, it's alluring beauty would not assume it's peak until about the second week of the third month of the second quarter, when crop and yam tendrills would begin to grow with natural greenish fervour.before then, of course, the vegetables.in the garden would sprouts and grow to maturity, which they would harvest to complement the.household meals.the garden was like a tip of the.iceberg representating the real farm which kilometers away. The land was so fertile that farmer could experience bumper harvest with the least of effort.this made the farmer to pride themselves as great farmer.to demonstrate this, many of them would marry wives one two three four or more, as the case might be.it was even rumours that one such wealthy farmers, okemuties, married quitea dozen women that he later found it difficult to give them sexual satisfaction.this phenomenon, as it was told, set him, more often than not, at loggerhead with one  wife after another.at time, he would have to settle dispute among the wives as to whose turn was next.in this case the wives would.sometime accuse h of being the major contributor to such dispute.this was especially so whenever he had tried.to settled.dispute apparently in favour of a younger wife.
At one time, the rumours came that one of the wives who was noted for enjoying being beaten by okemuties retorted.like a gnawing rat at it's victim flesh, you are the.fountaim of petty jealous and squabble in this compound and the enemy of peace of the household. Why is it that your manhood is nicer satisfied, but dangle here and there like a horse tail? That earned her a fine of one head of she host but was starved of the opportunity of being beaten one more time.
In spite of that many villager most especially the drunk and the loafer envied.okemutie.they would wish that they had such strength, harvest and wealth like him so that they would marry.aretinue of wives.yet, it would never occur to them.that they should work hard y be dedicated for nature to reward them reciprocally.what encourage most of the farmer to marry many wives was the degree of certainty, concerning an expected return on investment.this was so because.a few shilling of bride price could be double for them Man time over in the next harvest.season, from the labor the new wife was expected to put into.the husband farms.
