So, today after church, I was having a discussion with my elder brother about the renewal of marital vows. I decided to share this here with you all. I laughed out loud when the reverend ask the couples to come to the altar and asked the couples to kiss after they had renewed their vows. Some of the couples were very shy to do this. It was indeed an awkward moment. 

I made my brother understand that so many couples out there are quite shy about professing love to their partners in public. They are somewhat scared about what society will think of them. It won’t hurt if you hug your wife in public especially if she has traveled for a long and just returned from the journey.

Marriage as we all know is the formally or legally recognized union between two people, a man, and a woman. It is a joyful thing to experience if done correctly with the best interests at the heart of the people involved. However, it is unfortunate that we see an entirely different thing in our world today. So many domestic violence stories on the internet, divorce, disunity, and all sorts of chaos in the marriage world.

The couple engaged in this marital melee were once lovebirds during courtship, they professed their love for each other and promised that nothing will ever come in between them. However, one would begin to ask: “what actually went wrong?”

Well, the number one thing that went wrong in the union is the death of companionship. I realized that the couple actually forgets about companionship after the wedding. They forget that it is the fuel that keeps the marriage vehicle moving long after the merrymaking during the wedding party. Companionship is that force that settles misunderstandings even before the next day.

Companionship is that force that reminds you to profess love to your partner always. It is that force that helps you to avoid cheating on your partner if the temptation arises. It helps to see your partner as your true half even when the marriage is many years old. What is companionship, you might ask?

Well, simply put, companionship in marriage entails: A man or woman getting married to his/her friend, a friend they usually found joy in, and a friend who completes them, a friend who keeps them happy even when they don’t feel like it.

The majority of failed marriages today stem from the fact people get married for the wrong reasons, especially for the sole aim of being seen by society as a married man or a married woman. It does not have to be so. You need to get married for yourself, what you actually want.

Love, Happiness, financial buoyancy, and many other features are quite important if you want to have a successful marriage but companionship is the factor that brings all these aforementioned features together.

So don’t forget companionship as you get married tomorrow. If you are already married, try your best possible to revive your companionship in your marriage. I wish you the best out there y’all.
