~3.0 mins read
Examination malpractice is often defined as any
deliberate act of wrong doing, contrary to the rules
of examinations designed to give a candidate an
undue advantage. Examination malpractice in
Nigeria is as old as the country itself. It has grave
consequences on individuals, institutions,
communities and the country at large. This one ill
that has bedeviled the nation should be confronted
head-on and curbed. Who are the perpetrators?
Who is to blame? BETTY AMUKPO asks, some
children respond thus:
‘Students are highly to be blamed’
Student are the set of people that promote examination
malpractice most. Why will you engage yourself in such
act? Because you don’t want to read; you want to pass by
all means. You are cheating yourself, parents and society.
Stop the negative act of examination malpractice. Students
are highly to be blamed.
‘The parents are to be blamed’
The parents are to be blamed for examination malpractices
because most of them are the ones who introduced their
children to examination malpractices by bribing the
examination officials for their children to pass. However, the
Bible says “Train up a child in the way he should go and
when he is old, he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).
‘Poor teaching skills of teachers;
most of them go into teaching
because of unemployment’
Examination malpractices, who is to blame? 1: Parents.
Wrong value system; they do everything possible to the
extent of bribing the teachers in order to pass their children.

teaching because of unemployment. 3: Students: They also

their children’s success in examinations.
‘School’s inability to cover
prescribed syllabuses
Parents are to blame for quest for certification instead of
knowledge and skills. Poor moral upbringing. School’s
inability to cover prescribed school syllabus, lack of teaching
aids. Ineffective guidance and counseling department in

parents giving money to teachers or invigilators to allow
students to engage in cheating during, before and after
exams to pass successfully in the examination. Exam

‘Teachers are to be blamed because
they collect bribe to pass students’
