Who Was Manchester United Standout Player Against Chelsea?
~1.7 mins read
Manchester United returned to Premier League action on Sunday, with a solid showing away at the home of league leaders Chelsea.
The Reds ground out a creditable 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge, with an energetic and robust display characterized by determined defending and rapid counter-attacks.
A mistake by Chelsea captain Jorginho allowed Jadon Sancho to soar clear and slide home the game's opening goal, but United was pegged back by a penalty that was calmly converted by the same aforementioned Blues midfielder.
Nevertheless, a point in west London represents an encouraging result, and the entire team deserves praise for the resolve shown. But who deserved Manchester United post-match award?
Sancho, for his nerveless goal? Or possibly one of United's hardworking midfielders, Fred, Matic, and McTominay? Was it David De Gea, for his typical reel of brilliant saves? Or maybe one of Manchester United tough center defenders, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly?
The competition for the reward was a close one, but who emerged on top?
The whole team was fantastic, despite Chelsea's control of the ball, with the Reds putting in 21 tackles and eight blocks across the 97 minutes.
But stopper David De Gea ultimately emerged triumphant, thanks to a series of saves in the first half that prevented the Blues from getting their noses in front. The Spaniard garnered 35 percent in United's poll, ahead of goalscorer Jadon Sancho (33 percent) and the indefatigable Fred, who won 10 percent.
Others who polled strongly include Scott McTominay, Eric Bailly, and Nemanja Matic.
David De Gea - 35 per cent
Jadon Sancho - 33 per cent
Fred - 10 per cent
Scott McTominay - 8 per cent
Eric Bailly/Nemanja Matic - 3 per cent
Congratulations to David. He deserved it as a result of most of his important saves that kept Manchester United in the game.
