Diallo: Story Of A Man Shot 41 Times By The Police.
~3.2 mins read
first came across this story listening to the song "diallo" by wyclef Jean.
In the early hours of February 4, 1999, Amadou Diallo, a 23 year old guniean immigrant was shot dead close to his apartment by four plainclothes new York policemen after returning from his meal.
They claimed to have mistaken him for a rape suspect from the year before. He was shot at 41 times and was struck by 19 of the bullets.
According to the officers Sean Carroll, Richard Murphy, Edward Mchellon and Kenneth Boss, they mistook him for a suspect in a rape case under investigation and followed him to the steps of his apartment house. They ordered him to 'show his hands' but he didn't seem to understand so he reached into his jacket and brought out an object but due to the light, they could only see his sillhouette and a small square object.
Seeing the object which they believed to be a gun, one of the officers, carrol, yelled 'he's got a gun' and started firing. He was joined by mchellon tripped backward off the stairs causing the others to believe he had been shot and continue firing.
On further investigation, it was found that he had no weapons on or near him. What he pulled out was a small black wallet and a beeper.
That wasn't the first time something like that had happened. On Halloween 1997, one of the officers Kenneth boss had in an apartment building, shot an unarmed black man twice killing him in response to complaints about a man in the building menacing others with a gun. Witnesses confirmed that the victim didn't have any weapons, just a set of keys with him.
On the 4th of March 1999, a Bronx grand jury charged the four officers with murder and reckless endangerment. On 16th December, a change of venue to New York, Albany was ordered due to pretrial publicity. After two years of deliberation, on February 25, 2000, the jury in Albany freed them of all charges.
In April 2000, Diallo's parents filed for a lawsuit of $61 million against the city and its officers and they won a settlement of $3 million on march 2004.

INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAIHIL RAJI,UN
ALLAH  KASA MU ZAUNA DA MAKOTAN MU LAFIYA, KA BAMU MAKOTA NA GARI, DAN DARAJAR MANZON RAHAMA (S.A.W).
*A true story from Yemen*

How often do you check on your neighbors?

This story will make you cry bcos it is a true story that took place in one of the neighborhood in Sanaa.

There was a man who lived in a two-room house with his wife and three children. Before the war he was working on a daily salary and in stable condition.

With the events of war and lack of work, this man was going from morning and returns only at night with his hands empty. And on that night he came back late and found his wife in severe labor pain, so he took her to emergency at Al-Khazzan Hospital.

Since it was late at night and the children were sleeping, he did not want to disturb the neighbors.

He closed the door from outside, and all three of his children were inside. When he arrived at the hospital, he was told that his wife was in need of a cesarean surgery because the baby was having complications.

He was told to pay fifty thousand to the accounts office. But because he was not carrying that amount, he convinced the hospital Director to perform the operation while he goes to collect the money.

After all effort, the hospital Director agreed that the operation be performed.

The man left the hospital to search for money and he did not know from who, or where he will get this money.

His mind was only thinking of how to get this money and as he was crossing the road to the other side, he was not paying attention. A young man was speeding with his car and he trampled this man's last breath.

Since he was speeding, the owner of the car escaped so as to avoid justice.

Some passers-by gather and took the body to the morgue at Kuwait Hospital.

After seven days at Al-Khazzan Hospital, the Director of the hospital told the wife that her husband is a cheat, and the wife was unable to justify his innocence.

The delay made tears to come down from her eyes and the story began to spread, that there is a man who brought his wife to the hospital and did not return and many people heard about it.

Some of those who witnessed the accident went to Al Khazzan hospital and asked the staff when did the man come out of the hospital to get the money for his wife's operation?

When they knew the time was same with the time of the accident, the hospital Director took the woman to Kuwait Hospital to check the body.

Everyone was surprised that the body was that of this woman's husband. But the woman was in another world.

When they took her to the house, she asked them to wait outside, and after a long wait they didn't hear anything from her. They entered the house to find the woman has died from shock and next to her are three children who died of starvation and thirst bcos the door of the house was closed for seven days.

A violent shock shocked everyone who witnessed this incident. This story was a tragedy that made everyone who hears it to cry.

Check on your neighbors and loved ones who are vulnerable for relief in times of hardship.

Tell such stories to your children and family so that they know the amount of blessings they are living in and truly appreciate its worth.

*A very painful story. I hope you share this story to others so that a neighbor checks on his neighbor more often*
