Kylian Mbappe equalled Cristiano Ronaldo's international record on Saturday night in France's 8-nil rout of Kazakhstan.

France booked their ticket to Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup with a resounding victory, but it was Kylian Mbappe who stole the show that night.

Since missing that decisive penalty that sent France home in the Euro 2020, Mbappe has steadily redeemed himself with goals and brilliant performances for the World champions.

The Paris Saint Germain ace put Kazakhstan to the sword with a 32-minute hat-trick before grabbing a late fourth goal to become the first player to bag 4 goals in a competitive match for France in 63 years.

Mbappe's 4 goals also meant he has matched Ronaldo's record of scoring four times in an international game; a feat which Lionel Messi is yet to achieve.

Ronaldo scored the first "super hat-trick" (4 goals) of his international career in the FIFA World Cup qualification match against Andorra in 2016 to help Portugal to a 6-nil win.

The 5-time Ballon d'Or winner repeated same feat when Portugal met Lithuania on the 10th of September 2019 during the qualifying stages for the UEFA Euro 2020.

Mbappe has now followed in the footsteps of his idol by putting four past Kazakhstan, and seeing that he's still just 22 years of age, he may well surpass the number of times Ronaldo scored 4 goals in a single international game.

However, Ronaldo's rival and Mbappe's team-mate at PSG (Messi) cannot boast of this achievement yet since he started playing for the Argentine senior team in 2005.

In over 150 appearances for Argentina, Messi has 7 hat-tricks (3 goals) to his name but has struggled to score four in a game for the Albiceleste. Hopefully, he will do so before he calls it time on his decorated international career.

Ronaldo has been able to keep several records and broken several others in his years as a professional footballer. He has also won the Euro Cup with Portugal back in 2016 and he aims to achieve more in the future.
