Fred has rubbished speculation that he could be on his way out of Man United after Donny van de Beek joined from Ajax and insists greater contest in midfield is ‘good for everyone’ at the Theatre of Dreams.

The Norwegian coach has an embarrassment of riches in the middle of the park, with Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay and Brazil international already battling it out for game-time before Van de Beek’s £40m arrivals.

Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira are ‘likely’ to leave Man United before next month’s transfer deadline and Fred has been strongly linked with a move to Galatasaray.

Earlier this month, the 27-year-old footballer fuelled these talks by ‘liking’ a post on Instagram talking up a potential switch to Turkey but it’s clear the midfielder is set to fight for his place with Man United.

‘I want to stay here, that’s my desire,’ the Brazilian midfielder said. ‘I don’t want to leave. As I’ve always said, I want to be an important player and win trophies for this club. Van de Beek’s arrival means we’re getting stronger and that’s good for everyone at Man United.’

‘At least we managed to play good football at times during the campaign, and qualifying for the Champions League was very important because this club must be in that competition. It was crucial to get our place back, but that alone isn’t enough: we want to fight for that title, too.’

‘The good thing is that we’re improving as a team and I think we’re heading in the right direction. Trophies will come our way soon.’

Chelsea are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Edouard Mendy after submitting a fresh bid on Friday morning. The Blues have been busy this summer bringing in new recruits for Frank Lampard.

The Chelsea boss was unable to sign anyone during his first summer in charge due to a transfer ban while the January window didn't present opportunities for the club to sign the kind of player they were looking for.

A lack of transfer meant Lampard gave more chances to the club's youth prospects with players such as Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Reece James all impressing.

That's all changed this summer though with Chelsea spending over £200million on new recruits.

Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr have all joined Chelsea's revolution.

But their spending isn't going to stop there with a new goalkeeper a top priority.

And according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano , Chelsea have had a breakthrough in negotiations.

It is claimed that Chelsea have submitted a new bid and are confident it will be enough to convince Rennes to sell.

Personal terms are already said to be agreed, meaning a fee is all that needs to be settled on between the two clubs.

Mendy has made it clear to Rennes that he wants to move to Stamford Bridge.
