George Paton: I've Watched Enough To Know Drew Lock Is Talented , Can Teach
~1.2 mins read
The Broncos have a new General Manager, and George Paton will make a number of important personnel decisions in the coming months and years. None may loom larger than what the team will ultimately do at quarterback. Drew Lock just completed his second year, and feels he can be Denver’s franchise QB . In his introductory press conference on Tuesday, Paton didn’t endorse Lock as the Broncos’ quarterback of the present and future, saying he hasn’t studied the tape enough yet. But he has seen enough to at least know a little about Denver’s current QB. “I liked Drew coming out of the draft. A big arm, athletic, a play-maker,” Paton said, via Kyle Fredrickson of the Denver Post. “I haven’t gotten into a lot of tape. I’ve only been here four days. I’ve watched enough tape to know that he’s talented. He can develop.” However, Paton feels that there are other ways to win without a franchise quarterback. He noted the Vikings went to the playoffs six times with six different QBs in his time with the franchise. “I think we all want the franchise quarterback and that’s the No. 1 goal,” Paton said, via Troy Renck of KMGH. “You try to draft and develop and acquire any way you can. We are looking .” Lock has shown flashes of being The Guy, but not with enough consistency. He completed 57.3 percent of his passes for 2,933 yards with 16 touchdowns in 13 starts this season. But he also tied for the league lead with 15 interceptions. It was a step back from Lock’s rookie season, where the Broncos went 4-1 in his five starts. In those games, he completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 1,020 yards with seven touchdowns and just three picks.

~1.0 mins read
The New York Jets are set to appoint San Francisco 49ers' defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as head coach, a move which would make him the first Muslim to take charge of an NFL team. Saleh, 41, has been with the 49ers since 2017 and has also worked for teams including the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Seattle Seahawks and the Houston Texans. The Jets fired Adam Gase as head coach after defeat by the New England Patriots. They said they had "agreed in principle" for Saleh to take charge. "Saleh will become the Jets' 20th head coach in franchise history and their 18th coach appointed to take Green and White reins before the start of a new season," the Jets posted on their website. The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, a civil rights group, said Saleh would be the third Arab-American head coach in the NFL after Abe Gibron and Rich Kotite, but would be the first ever Muslim Head Coach The appointment has been welcomed by the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Muslim civil rights body, reported the US news network NBC. Jaguars name Urban Meyer as head coach The Jacksonville Jaguars have named Urban Meyer as their new head coach, replacing Doug Marrone. The 56-year-old announced his retirement from coaching in 2018 but makes his return as the Jaguars' sixth permanent head coach in their 27 seasons. He is one of just three coaches to win a national championship at two different universities. "Urban Meyer is who we want and need, a leader, a winner and champion who demands excellence and produces results," said Jaguars owner Shahid Khan.
