The Welsh international has been limited to only two League Cup appearances this season and wants to kick on, speaking after the game he said he is aiming to challenge Danish stopper Kasper Schmeichel as Leicester's number one.

Asked about whether he was happy to play second fiddle this season Ward said: "No, every footballer will say the same. No one is content with sitting on the bench, but that's the way it is.

Ward has impressed in a series of loan moves, but some questioned the value for money Leicester were getting in the expensive mood. Ward wasn't phased by this though.

Schmeichel began his career with Manchester City , but he had loan spells with Darlington , Bury and

Falkirk before he made his Manchester City debut. Although Schmeichel appeared to have made the City number 1 jersey his own at the start of the 2007–08 season, the emergence of Joe Hart resulted in Schmeichel being loaned to Cardiff City .

After playing the starring role, with his team mates unable to break the deadlock in the 0-0, Ward's heroics made the difference for his team in the third round tie.
