Firstly what's internet fraud?

Internet fraud is a type of cybercrime Fraud which makes use of the internet and could involve providing incorrect information for the purpose of tricking victims out of money, properties. This scam or act is usually carried out by compromising legitimate business email accounts through social engineering.

Nigeria needs to embark on a long term approach to deal with internet fraud, it's no longer a secret that internet fraud is a nasty scar on the face of the country, there is a high rate of internet fraud in Nigeria.

Ways by which we can prevent internet fraud in Nigeria:

Know who you do business with someone you deal with.

Spot imposters: scammers often pretend to be someone you can trust like a government official, a family member or a company you do business with, don't give out any personal information in response or send money to an unexpected request, whether it comes as a text or a phone call, or an email.

Don't believe your caller ID: Technology makes it easy for scammers to fake caller ID information, so the name and number you see aren't always real. If someone is asking for money or personal information, hang up.

Consider how you pay: A lot of people buy things online using their credit card or pay for things, credit cards have significant fraud protection while some don't. Sending money through services like Western Union or MoneyGram is risky, it is nearly impossible to get your money back.

Talk to someone: Before you give out money or personal information, talk to someone you can trust.

Be skeptical about free trail offer: Ask questions about free offers, because most companies use free trail to sign you in for a product and bill you every month, before you agree, first of all make research about the company and read the cancellation policy  and also review your monthly statements for charges you don't recognize.

Taking these steps, we will be able to prevent internet fraud.
