The controversial Pastor James Maina Ng'ang'a has a very interesting history that is full of controversy. He was born and raised from a very happy background, and started his hustle like as a hawker in Mombasa where he used to sell gospel CD's to get food.

Prior to his rise as a preacher, pastor James Ng'ang'a served a jail term of 21 years at Mombasa's Shimo La Tewa after he was convicted of robbery with violence charges.

After completing his 21 year jail term, he was released and relocated to Nairobi in 2001, later buying a plot where he erected a church, Neno Evangelism Centre, that later grew and developed to be one of the biggest churches in the city.

At the moment, he has turned out as a very wealthy pastor with his church having over 1000 followers.

However, he has always been on the headlines following his style of preaching and how he deals with problems especially when he is angry. He always unapologetically and strongly rebukes his critiques and publicly demand respect from his followers.

He was once arraigned in Limuru court after he was involved in a horrific accident that led to the death of a woman. The case was terminated, leading to his acquittal off the charges, but the state, through the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, appealed saying that he was not supposed to go scotch free.
