IKPULA EFI: The Great Igbo Tradition Dond For Every Aged Woman
~1.8 mins read
In the Igbo land from time in memorial, traditions has been one of the observed and important events which are noted duly.
IKPULA EFI as the name implies, this means a way of sending home an aged woman home back to his father's house.
This is act by which the children of the aged woman get a cow (female) one to be precise and send it to back to their late mother father's house (their maternal home) as an act of solemnity and respect for life well spent. This is done solely for people above 80years.
IKPULA EFI has been in practice for years and never do I think it will stop. Thanks for the growing culture, norms and traditions of the Igbo people.
Igbo's are set of people in the world which believe in their traditional and cultural belief without looking back.
"When the female cow (EFI) is bought by the children of the deceased who is the aged woman, it is been fed and take care of then taken to their maternal with a piece of George wrappers tied round on the waist region of the cow. The cow is then taken home by the children and grandchildren of the deceased with equivalent George wrappers tied on the waists individually. The cow is taken home alongside with songs of praises which is accorded unto the cow".
IKPULA EFI is an ideal Igbo tradition which is observed in some parts of the South eastern part of the country.
This was ideally done for my grandma when she died at the age of 88years.
This is done in proper and organized form, Drinks and foods are sometimes taken as well. It is adviced to take children along inorder for them to know how and what the Igbo tradition is all about.
