I know a lot of people would jump to the conclusion that 'Nigerian police is an enemy than a friend but I'm afraid it's not always the case. In Nigeria and perhaps other parts of the world, it's somewhat normal to judge a particular group of people based on our experiences with one person from that group but you can't tag a country as bad just because your encounter with a state was bad, can you?

A large number of Nigeria's population has lost hope in the government, police and to some extent the country. They (unbelievers) as I'd like to call them would rather buy the idea of division than restructuring, which I believe is not only a selfish phenomenon but insensitivity in their part.

Let me jump into why I'm here. Sometimes, I'm a little carried away by how we are so quick to point accusing fingers or bad mouth a particular arm of government in the country.

I was coming back from a job interview and it seemed to me I had forgotten the route I took, maybe due to the fact that it was my first time in the area. After I came out, I stood there for some minutes trying to remember where I had passed earlier on. You know how Lagos road is - always very busy and approaching anyone that time would be a wasted effort as they may not give me listening ears.

'Alas' I said in my mind looking at some police operatives at the checkpoint. Quite frankly, I stood there for about 3 minutes wondering the popular tag "Police is your friend and how ironic my friends in school and indeed the society where I lived in told me it was.

Finally, I walked to the tall man. "Where can I take a bus going to Ikorodu?" I asked. To my greatest surprise, he told me he was will be going to that direction in about 45 minutes. Without hesitation, I told him I'd wait. While I sat at a pavement under a bridge, he engaged me in a conversation - The Yahaya Shariff Aminu's death sentence. He bought some snack and gave me quite the large portion. When it was time to go, I hopped into his old BMW car and zoomed off.

After that encounter, my perception changed abou thet Nigerian police. Share your story about your encounter with any security operatives.
