President Muhammadu Buhari Saturday took stock of the flood situation in the country and authorized the dispatch of special teams to deliver urgently needed assistance to 12 states most ravaged by the seasonal rains.

The states to receive the teams conveying reinforcement of reliefs and other equipment through the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, are: Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Edo, Anambra, Delta, Kano, Jigawa, Rivers, Bayelsa and Adamawa.

Some of the states that have been reached with the first wave of support from the Presidency are: Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Sokoto, Jigawa and Kaduna.

President Buhari once again expressed the nation’s sympathy to the victims of the floods, many of whom had lost family members, homes and valued investments in agricultural crops and livestock.

The President underscored the need for additional coordination between the federal and state government agencies dealing with the issues, and for improved forecast and warning systems to avert similar calamities.

LIVING IN BOUNDAGE

LIVING IN BOUNDAGE

We all heard how we broke iron bars,
innocent fathers risked their lives;
to buy us freedom from tyrant rulers.
To rescue us from den of white Lions,
their lives were offered as burnt offerings.

They pushed the motion,
fought for liberty and independence.
The freedom story rushed down to us,
but of a truth nothing had really changed.

We claim to be free,
yet they treat us like second class citizens.
We still live in bondage,
colonization still fuel our passion.
Ideological, we're still slaves,
our sense of humanity has failed us.

We sent them packing to stand alone,
still, we run to them for advice and help.
Socially, we're living in boundage,
our cultural heritage has no more taste.

With the hope of fixing things from above,
greediness has forced them to place us
again under servitude and future siege.
Religious wise we're still slaves,
they advance in technology and
gave us religion as weapon of war.
We're devilishly godly; sons of deception.

We have resources, but no brain to manage them,
they buy raw materials from us and
sell back to us at higher price after production.
Financially we are still slaves;
to mismanagement, corruption and bribe.

Fletters of the past aren't gone,
it only change modes of operation.
In the past, our shackles were plain to naked eyes;
but now, we are ghostly living in boundage.
