~4.4 mins read
Culture can be defined as the way of life of a particular people in a particular geographical area.
There are so many cultures that is still practiced despite civilization.
In the article, I will be sharing a short generational cultural practice by some tribe in Northern Namibia.
In this present time where love is guided seriously with high rate of jealousy, this set of people do not may not share that.
In Namibia, there is this practice of "wife swapping" in some cultures. This have been handed from generation to generation.
The practice is Known as "okujepisa omukazendu" -- which loosely means "offering a wife to a guest
Wife swapping among Namibia's nomadic tribes has been practised for generations. Although not everyone is in support or this practice. but a legislator's call to enshrine it in law has stirred debate about women's rights and tradition in modern society.

This tribe is mainly found in the northwestern Kunene region near the Angolan border, the tribes are largely isolated from the rest of the country. They have resisted the trappings of modern life despite the push of civilization. They just keep livestock, live off the land and practice ancestral worship.
Their style of house is pole and mud. Both men and women go about their activities bare-chested.
Dress style.
The women wear short skirts of goat skin, carved iron and cowshell jewellery and cover their braided locks in thick red ochre paste, which they also rub on their skin as a sun screen.
In this practice, the tribal members make no random draw to pair couples. They meet in their own homes, while the husband or wife of the other party is banished to a separate hut during the exchange.
So many activist have come up agitating for the banishment of this culture but proving difficult to deal with.
This activist see this practice as not right, since the women have no choice in what is happening. Therefore, the women are at the disadvantage.
Since there status is entirely based on the number of cattle one has. The people are polygamous and the young girls get married off as soon as they reach puberty.
What is your opinion about the culture of the Namibia?
