A Few days ago, the Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo who is popularly known as Sunday Igboho stormed the Ibarapa area of Oyo state to address the issue of constant kidnapping and incessant killing of people that have become part and parcel of the region.

On arrival at the town, he briefly addressed the residents who applauded him for fulfilling his promise not to abandon them.

There he promised to liberate the people of Ibarapa and the Yoruba land at large from kidnapping, rape, and other social vices.

During the visit, he asked all criminal elements among the herdsmen in all states of the southwest to leave the region immediately or get ready for an onslaught as Igboho believed that Fulani herdsmen are the brains behind the kidnappings and killings in the area.

On a Friday evening, Yoruba youths allegedly burnt houses and cars in the settlement of Sarkin Fulani.

Since then, the crisis between Igboho and Fulani herdsmen escalated and the IG ordered that Sunday Igboho should be arrested. 

Not long, Sunday Igboho's house situated in the Soka area of Ibadan was set on fire in what seems like a reprisal attack.

Looking at the concerted efforts recently displayed by Sunday Igboho, there is no doubt about the fact that his name has become a household name in Yoruba land and his efforts have earned him more fame and recognition among the Yorubas.

On Thursday, January 9, 2020, the Governors of Nigeria’s six southwest states of Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, and Lagos, launched the western Nigeria security network called ‘Operation Amotekun’ in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Since its establishment, it has been of help to reduce acts of violence and social vices in the western region. If Sunday Igboho is allowed to head Amotekun, then there will be zero tolerance for crime and criminal activities in the western region.

The Oodua Peoples Congress was formed by a group of Yoruba elites and artisans which included Dr. Fredrick fashion (its first national leader), Aare Gani Adams (15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land), Ibrahim Atanda, Mrs.Adebowale (Mama Ijebu), Tony Ugurube of Ijaw, South-South extraction, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Hon. Kayode Oladele and many others.

This organization was formed to actualize the annulled mandate of Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, a Yoruba who most people believed to be on his way to winning the presidential election of 12 June 1993, which was subsequently annulled by the military government before vote tallying was complete.

This organization has a security outfit that has zero-tolerance for violence. If this organization is given out to Sunday Igboho to head and direct then, there will be zero tolerance for crime in the western region.

Aare Ona Kakanfo was a title given to the generalissimo, the war general during the old Oyo Empire.

The title of Aare Ona Kakanfo was introduced hundreds of years ago to the Yoruba country by King (Alaafin) Ajagbo, who ruled over 700 years ago. Ajagbo, as a prince was part of many military expeditions to fend off invaders, and grew up a warrior, all the while nurturing ideas on how best to deal with military aggression against his kingdom-state.

One of the direct results of his ideas, when he became Alaafin, was the creation of the office and title of Aare Ona Kakanfo, meaning Field Marshal, or Generalissimo of the Alaafin’s armies.

The title of Are Ona Kakanfo was created to check the excesses and frequent incursions of Ibaribas into Yoruba territories. During that time, Ibaribas were terrorizing the Yoruba nation and, when the then Alaafin realized the gargantuan nature of the problem, he created the title of the Are Ona Kakanfo. 

If Igboho can take up the position of the second in command to Aare Gani Adams then criminal activities most especially kidnapping and incessant killing of people will be a thing of the past in Yoruba Land.

One of Yoruba Activist known as Sunday Igboho spoke concerning the issue of his activism and described it as a river that can't be ignored, he gave his review concerning the statement made by Senator Femi Ojudu by saying that Babafemi Ojudu told Tinubu that Sunday Igboho should not create an unrest during the governorship election in Ekiti. 

Igboho told Ojudu to swear by his nephew if he really took money from him, according to him he said many politicians has been begging him not to fight with Fulani Herdsmen ahead of the 2023 elections in Ekiti state, he said he only wanted balance to be restored to Yourba land.
