The United Nations secretary-general has condemned the “violent escalation†in Lagos which he said had resulted in “multiple deaths" and “many injuriesâ€.
Antonio Guterres called for “an end to reported police brutality and abuses†in Nigeria, an investigation into the shooting of protesters, and for the perpetrators to be held accountable.
A spokesperson added: "The secretary-general urges the security forces to act at all times with maximum restraint while calling on protestors to demonstrate peacefully and to refrain from violence.
“The secretary-general encourages the authorities to swiftly explore avenues to de-escalate the situation. He reiterates the readiness of the United Nations to support national efforts towards finding a solution.â€

"NIGERIA WILL NOT END ME" #RIPOKE

A UI/UX designer, Oke, has been killed by a stray bullet during the ongoing EndSARS protests in Lagos State.
Oke, whose Twitter handle is @O_Okee, was allegedly killed by a police bullet in his home.
Few hours before his death, Oke had tweeted, “Nigeria will not end me.â€
Unfortunately, that was his last tweet as he was killed three hours later by a stray bullet to his neck.
Oke designed the LifeBank Cares app for blood donations after the shootings at Lekki toll gate.
